Possible Bad High Pressure Fuel Pumps

I finally had a chance to use my rosstech software last night to run a scan of my 08 S6. Ever since I’ve bought it, it starts poorly and doesn’t idle well until it warms up, now I’m getting a check engine light and a ESP warning on my dash. I can also smell gas when I start it and after driving it (haven’t’ really driven it much more than around the block for several months though - just moved and haven’t had time to work on it). These are the errors I’m getting that seem to be related to the issue (amongst other that I’ll have to work through after lol)

I’ve had the intake carbon cleaned and the injectors cleaned, only a few hundred km’s ago. Obviosuly I’m still having some sort of fuel issue. I don’t want to just start throwing parts at it if they’re not required especially since the HPFP’s are over $1000.00 CDN each around here. Does it look like this is the issue or is there possibly something else I should be looking at? Thanks.

IF you smell fuel there is a good chance that when you had the work done not too long ago that the fuel connection point is leaking. This is not uncommon its acually something lots of people run into.

Lots of misfires are at idle on what is probably cold start. To get the car to cold start working well I’d recommend doing a smoke test and you’ll probably find a few spots that air is getting in or out.

Is there a good vacuum line to hook a smoke machine to? I was digging around last night and there aren’t that many vacuum lines on these engines. I was thinking through the pcv valve?

The only reason I think there is something else wrong with the fuel system is that it would go into limp mode occasionally even before I had it in to get the intake/injectors cleaned, now it does it as soon as I start the car though but I will poke around to see if there are any visible leaks

“Is there a good vacuum line to hook a smoke machine to?”
Front vacuum line for SAI

Perfect, thank you. I’ll give that a shot tonight to see if I have any leaks

Well I found the leak, smoke started pouring out of the left side intake flap actuator. Started looking at it closer and the shaft that goes through the intake is broken

I don’t suppose there’s really a way to fix this is there? I could lock the flaps in place (I think?) and get the hole welded…I don’t know if I want to spend 5,000 on a new intake manifold

Your flaps are broken, without any doubt.

Yeah that’s pretty obvious since I can pull the actuator arm out lol, anyone have a functioning intake manifold they want to sell me?

Fcp euro has it for 2600 but it’s back ordered

Yeah that was the cheapest I’ve seen, the rest are 3000-4000 usd, I’m in Canada so I need to add 25% plus shipping on top of that

No aftermarket available before this summer unfortunately (august the soonest). In Russia a guy is currently prototyping a repair kit, that should be available at the end of this month.

I’ve seen those, but don’t they just fix the actual flaps? Would it work to repair the actuator arm? I’d need to get it to seal up properly as well since it’s leaking pretty bad out of the hole

I think I did that to my old one I put like a screw through the middle. Did it like 2 years ago before I bought a new one. It did work for some time.

I would take it apart and try to fix it
