Possible popped motor in an APR S2 B8? Anyone heard or know anything about this?

Take a look at this thread on Vendorzone. Anyone know the story, or if there is one?

very possible…you guys are seeing 80-100 whp over stock on the damn cars. There’s always a risk of killing the engine. Same happens to a stock B8…there have been a bunch of blown motors on stock cars as well. Same happened to the B7 RS4…we had 2 or 3 guys just have their engine fail catastrophically while bone stock.

Shit happens.

Yeah, I don’t disagree at all, and certainly would not blame APR or the tune without more information. The stock motors tended to be within the first few hundred miles and generally the car shat a rod or something due to a manufacturing defect. That said, I’d be interested to know the mileage on the car, how long they had the tune, conditions, gas used, etc, so that if there is any conclusion to be drawn then we can all draw it.

I’m just saying that unless there are a whole bunch of them, you’re not likely to draw any conclusions.

There was an RS4 owner who got a JHM tune and blew his motor a few months later. A bunch of people went mental but reality? Who the hell knows what happened? It’s not like the tuner made him a custom file and checked off the box that said ‘bend rods’. He got the same tune everyone else did, and everyone else’s motors are fine. It’s pretty clear he had a weak motor that let go. What caused the motor to be weak? Well it had 90,000 miles on it…and it was I believe Unitronic tuned for a good part of those miles. Who the hell knows in that situation. Same here… who knows what the car had going on. unfortunately there’s not a ‘motor is going to blow soon’ warning light lol.

Just as we haven’t heard about any other APR tuned B8 S4s blowing motors other than the one that ditched APR for REVO, I don’t think it’s really much of a big deal at all.

Interesting though I agree.

Ouch, that would be a tough pill to swallow :o

On a side note

Interestingly enough, a friend of mine who works at a tuning shop told me that a customer of his was denied warranty on his AC unit because of a stage 1 flash. (MK6 GTI)

On the flip side of that. My buddy with a MKVI GTI also tuned got his entire AC system replaced under warranty. Car has 20k miles and the AC would randomly stop blowing. VWoA OK’d a complete replacement.

Crazy how there isn’t much noise about that engine, might be because its the first one pointed out?

I have a very sneaking suspicion that VWoC is way harder on this whole denial thing especially because the market is so small up here.

Damn, you would think I’d hear about this being at APR but I guess I gotta find out on the forums? Director of engineering also confused. lol.

BTW, TAI-VW still exists? Man, that guys!

Not to be taken wrong arin…how do you guys handle something like this…while its obviously hard to ssy this was apr that was responsible and it doesn’t sound like this was a apr test car…how do you guys handle these things…I know giac just recently kinda appeared to drop the ball…we didn’t get giacs s8de of what happened. …still just wondering how you guys look at stuff like this.

Thanks for chiming in to clear that up Arin. Yeah that TAI-VW dude is a flat out douche. For as much as people complain about ‘APR fanbois’ over there, it’s funny that it seems to be the ‘fanbois’ of the other side throwing the most shit.

If we did something wrong, and know we did, I/we would have a hard time not covering it. That extends beyond business alone. Somethings are just right to do, and we man up.

Usually with little diagnose you find the problems. Lack of maintenance, tons of over rev codes, etc.

I typically hear about all the ‘shit’ so to speak. If we blew an engine, or someone accused us of doing so, I would imagine someone would tell me. Same goes for the head of engineering. Both of us know nothing about this. I’ll probably ask tech and sales tomorrow if they have heard anything because overall it seems odd. (Was there another post I missed besides this thread? I haven’t tracked the forums much recently, so I may have missed it).

If there was another thread, I didn’t see it. I’m almost wondering if a couple of the douches (like TAI-VW) who still think everyone is making everything up about Revo popping engines was just trying to make some kind of misguided point by doing to you guys what they think a bunch of actually reputable forum members are doing to Revo. Nevermind that the logs make it obvious as hell that Revo is going to blow an engine before either APR or GIAC.

I love that TAI-VW guy . . . trolled everyone on the 1.8t forums, then on the 2.0t FSI forums spouting REVO propaganda . . . at one point he tried to become an APR dealer and was denied . . . trolled APR some more. From everything that’s been said online, it seems like he’s the sole tuning source on the island in Hawaii. No one gives negative feedback about him or else they’ll lose any support for their vehicles. Here’s an oldie from one of his trollfests:

Hahaha owned

Well, after all that it wasn’t a B8 S4 after all. It was an A4.

Speaking of blowing 2.0T engines, we make this to help with the issues we found on the track and street in high G situations.

Anyone know what’s going on here? Typical Quattrofail - tons of replies and no real information.

http://forums.quattroworld.com/s4b8/msgs/43743.phtml

I remember that guy when i used to be around the 2.0TFSI forum.

Lot’s of interesting responses plus he claimed to be extracting big numbers out of k03’s by doing some very questionable things.

Sorry opened the link and immediately closed it… I can’t stand forums setup like that…

^^ haha. you’re not the only one. that layout is a disgrace.

It’s like playing a game of peekaboo trying to find information, having to click all the posts with content.

You can set it to show everything however. Only thing there is you read down a long string then are suddenly shot back to the next post which was from 60 posts earlier. Makes no sense. It was designed to save bandwidth so you wouldn’t have to load a page of photos etc unless you wanted to. back in the days of 14,400 baud rate modems.

There’s a reason that format went out the window when bandwidth got cheap. It fucking sucks is the reason.
