Possible RS4 purchase - PPI on high mileage car

Wow, asking $40K? I would think a fair price to pay is $35K for the car with new rotors/pads. $33.5K for the the car that still needs the work.

Mine isn’t for sale but if I was confident I could get $40K for it I would sell pretty easily. And mine has 37K miles and is in great shape.

Depends on the year. I wouldn’t pay anything starting with a 4 for any 2007

Wow really? I know people value sprint blue a little more. A dealer in Colorado just sold a 60k miles sprint blue for 39 and change, that’s what they told me at least when they returned my call saying it had sold already. So 35k from a dealer you would think is fair.

Typerx, what color is your car? The private party car is an 08 with 64k very well maintained, 1 owner DRC done, c&c just done, prepaid maintenance through 75k but will likely need brakes and rotors as previously mentioned. Asking 43k though :o

Dealers who tell you 39 probably really sold for 35. And Sprint Blue is hard to sell, not easy to sell. It’s too flashy for 90% of the public who is buying a $40,000 used car.

Same with Imola

Same with Misano

That’s what I’m trying to do. Come up with some expectations and put them down on paper. Of course I would love to see some very high numbers, but given the mileage, I would be happy with numbers above 155. I would prefer everything to be 160 or higher but we’ll see how it goes. Do you agree with the 10% variance that 65vette mentioned above?

I’m planning to do the typical maintenance stuff right away: plugs, fuel filter, air filters, oil change to Motul, gear oil change, etc. Is there anything else I should be considering?

I absolutely love sprint blue but can understand that it might be a bit too flashy for some. I think that white seems to command the biggest premium.

Mine is mugello blue. An understated color for sure but not as exciting.

I think I was a bit too harsh on the prices I stated earlier. If both are '08s, my opinion is that $37.5K or so is the ceiling for the car that requires no work and like $36K for the car that needs brakes. With warranty of some sort, maybe $500-$750 more unless we are talking CPO. And of course, people will ask more than that so what I am referring to is what I think would be a fair price to pay.

The best thing to do is to try and see what recent auction prices are for similar cars. Perhaps even the ones you are looking at will show up. Add $1500 for various fees and then a couple grand for dealer profit and that should be your target price IMO.

Brakes will probably be needed within the first year on this RS. I’m thinking I’ll go with the JHM LW setup again. I’ve enjoyed them on my S4. I definitely won’t be running Hawk HPS pads again though. Maybe try the Carbotech’s that Saki mentioned.

Good to know about the ecu flash. I’ll keep my eyes peeled when I review his records for that. I wonder if it’s a recall thing that the dealer would do for free?

I know the DRC suspension is known to leak but where specifically should I look for the leaking? Is it obvious?

I could see this being true for dealers, but I think it’s different when selling private party and especially on the forums. People normally go crazy for flashy colors. I’ll be putting this to the test pretty soon when I list my sprint blue S4. KBB says it’s worth about 15k, but I’d like to get a little more than that for it. Who knows, we’ll see what happens.

I’ll give the full details about the deal after it’s done and if the seller is ok with me naming him on the forums.

Well, I don’t remember the story around the ECU flash completely but I do know that the dealers will “passively” load it on your car if you are getting routine service. I’ve actually avoided having it loaded since my car doesn’t go to the dealer (except for warranty or big work, neither of which it has required).

The ECU flash supposedly reduces sensitivity to misfires (related to carbon?) and a couple other things. Nothing essential and certainly nothing identified as an “upgrade”. RE: DRC, look for weeping from the shocks. It will be pretty obvious as it should be dry. Also look for excessive bounciness when driving. Finally, if there are records you should be able to see if the PO had the B revision shocks installed.

Yes I was thinking around 36k for the private. Guys sounds like he is a quattroworld lurker because he is aware of all of the issues but doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to sell. I do have access to Manheim if you’d like BWT. For example a dealer just purchased a 30k mile blue for 40k. Don’t know which blue. And typerx I love the mugello but there few and far between also and people are asking low 40’s.

whose car is it? DAMNIT I WANT TO KNOW!

PM me if you want.

You’ve got a PM. Thanks!

I actually don’t…you messing with me?

Just sent one to you as well. My previous post was to 65vette

damn egocentric me

got your msg.

What do you know about the car? Has it been tracked? Has it been highway driven or a mix, or mostly city?

One I’m looking at has silver interior that has wear on the drivers seat from a belt. Think this is just dye transfer the a good upholster can clean up?

I’d think so. I was pretty impressed with what I was able to clean off of leather… such as the crap below

Well I went ad drove a sprint blue one at a merc dealer in the area. 1 owner, all records, 65k miles, new brakes and pads but they wouldn’t budge on their 40k price tag. They weren’t expecting to replace pads and rotors and that ate up a good chunk of their intended profit I think. I tried to get them down to 36 but they weren’t even moving.
