Problem with HomeLink

Hi!

Is anyone else having issues with HomeLink? Mine seems to work randomly, and by work I mean have power. If I push a button, the little led should flash and it does sometimes, and sometimes it’s just dead. I do know that it only works with the ignition, and that’s when I’ve tried to use it.

It seems, and this is only speculation at this point, that it is affected by the temperature and it seems to work when it’s cooler out, but not when it’s warm or the car has been sitting in the sun. Arizona by the way and it’s in the 90’s already. Last night I got home late and it was working fine, but most days it doesn’t work.

I don’t even know where to look yet, but once I find out where the controls are I can check for issues or replace parts. But at this point, just wanted to see if anyone else has similar issues.

Your symptoms (no power) seem different than the guys on this thread…

But, it sounds like the units themselves are not that solid.

I never have used any of mine, so that is about all I have to add.

If you could swap it out with a good one for testing, that would tell you if it is a wire or connection issue, or an issue with the device itself.

I stopped using mine year 1 of having an Audi. I find they go out of programming periodically, so I just have the regular garage door opener in the little door pocket, out of site, held in by industrical strength velcro. Then I just slip my hand in there and open the garage when I get on my street.

My previous Audi was an '08 B7 A4 and that homelink was rock solid for the almost 5 years I owned the car, but searching the forums I see that I may have gotten lucky, or just unlucky this time around. It’s just odd that it’s intermittent, but I suppose I need to figure out where the control module is and replace it or check the wiring around.

I thought I was the only one to do this! I haven’t velcro’ed it yet, but I have it in the little door pocket as well, out of sight.

At this point I’m gonna start looking into the Motodyne HomeLink Extender, it uses satellites to relay garage door signals. It’s fucking awesome.

Exactly what Ive been looking for! I usually enter my neighborhood around 110 mph or so and I have to wait for the door to fully open because the signal wont reach from back on the freeway!

Try “factory resetting” the unit. They can be a little finicky. I think you hold 1 and 3 for an annoying period of time.
