Products WE want!

I thought it might be nice to have one thread with new product ideas for potential vendors to offer to us. I feel that people like JHM, 034, Apikol, Stern, etc have done a great job supplying some of the smaller products that the enthusiasts really appreciate. I’m not necessarily talking about headers and s/c, but products like Adj Upper Control Arms, Rear Diff mounts, Shifter linkages, Oil Coolers, etc.

So with that, I’d be happy to update this OP with ideas from different platforms if anyone thinks it has merit. I think some suggestions would be universal, and others platform specific, but that at least putting them out there is a great starting point. I’m just brainstorming on some of them to get some discussion going as well.

Universal:
Oil temp / Oil Pressure tap or fitting for gauge monitoring
Vacuum tubing replacement option with new fittings/clamps
Catch Can kit (I feel these don’t do squat, but I know a ton others love the idea, so just putting here for now)
Upgraded strut bushings (Any chance of adjustable from top for camber etc?) - 034 stiffer strut mount, not adj
Beefed up Jack Stand points like the RS4 has
JHM Tuned Cars - Launch Assist for ALL!!! (including s/c cars pretty pretty please ;D)
Spacer for Front Axle (to create equal length Half Shafts and open opportunity for aftermarket designs)
Any and all LW beefed up OEM-ish parts

3.0/3.2 V6
Oil cooler / cold air intake
Larger paddle shifter add-on (Oh wait PT knocked this one out of the park!)

3.0T
Large mouth TB and larger intake
LW Rotors
LW Crank
LW FW (Currently in R&D I believe)

Chain 4.2 V8
Oil temp / Oil Pressure tap or fitting for gauge monitoring (big plus for S/C guys or people with oil cooler)
^^I REALLY want to have that feature (how much of this can be accessed/read through VCDS???)
Timing Chain “Kit” (I know this is somewhat in the works, just putting this down)
Beefed up Cross member (91gl shattered his, has this happened before? Any chance in needing this?)

Timing Belt 4.2 V8
Billet Trans Mount Brackets
Front Snub Mount adapter
Tune development on newer 4.2’s

4.2 FSI
Carbon Clean Kit (I know it’s just an assortment of brushes & the know how, but I think a DIY and kit including everything would be neat to see and instill confidence for anyone with a FSI motor)
Carbonator (also in beta, but listing for now)
Exhaust that still utilizes “S” button with option of utilizing replica RS4 Tips

the oil pressure/temp should be easy for the cars with oil coolers, just need to split a hose and put a fitting in the middle

for the other cars iirc its 42draftdesigns makes a a distribution block setup that can tap into the stock sender location

I believe 034 makes a denser strut mount, not adjustable though

I’d like some billet trans mount brakcets, a new front motor mount setup, maybe some of the tune developments from the newer 4.2s (launch assist would be interesting)

I also mentioned this elsewhere, but a billet pcv valve that can be easily serviced and maybe a billet suction jet since those things suck

a billet trans cross member would be good for the S4s

an equal length front axle conversion would be nice for anyone (just need a spacer on the short one)

Maddog, Cool idea for a post…

3.0v6
Eaton to make the TVS1650 for our cars… my wife works at Eaton so I have her bug people all the time! LOL
Large mouth TB and larger intake… my brother intends to do this but we need to see how all the electronics and such hookup once the blower is off the car…
LW front and rear rotors like JHM makes… I may just go Stoptech fronts as they shave 10lbs per wheel…
HFC’s that work…
Any other lightweight parts that look OEM and replace the original w/o giving up anything… need to get weight off this pig… LOL

Oh and much thanks for the props on the paddles…

Beem (or PT), do either of you know how much VCDS can access to gain readings for oil temp/pressure or other advanced readings of that sort. I know the older cars (b5 etc) can’t do anything like that, but I didn’t know if any advancements were made in the B6/7/8, or C5/6. I know there’s a ton of hidden settings, and didn’t know if working with a gauge company, if they could crack into the OBDII to gain access to some of those readouts rather then installing an independent sensor.

I never saw anything in vcds, iirc the oil pressure sender is simply a safety switch (2 wire)… its there so if oil pressure drops to nothing or the wires break it trips the light and thats all really.

Mad, On the B8 S4 the vag cable can activate the oil temp/lap timer on the DIS… I think there is a field to monitor via vag logging also but will have to check and verify… Not sure on the oil pressure but will check also… There are all kinds of fields you can log on the B8 nearly 700 or so… I need to go pick my son up but will try to check later or Thur AM on the oil pressure and report back… later Ron

There is no oil pressure sensor as beem said and I have not been able to find oil temp through vcds. As some of you know, when I had my oil pan out I took it to a weder and had a bung welded in for and oil temp gauge. Still trying to figure out where the hell I need to get the oil pressure feed from. Only thing holding me back from doing the whole install is buying the podi dual pod. I will be doing a full write-up/DIY

Looking forward to that Joe, I have been wanting to put Podi in my car for a while.

I would pull the stock pressure safety switch and run a line from there to a distribution block where you could have the pressure sender and safety switch together. Or just eliminate the safety switch (splice the wires together should keep the light off) and run the pressure sensor from there

Not quite sure if the same applies, but on the rally car, the oil pressure sender fits in place of the oil pressure switch.

Just a question tho, what are you going to do with the information that it provides ?

Okay it will show that your picking up oil from the pan and shooting it around the engine, but then the question is what is the acceptable range.

I have the pressure gauge in two cars and honestly I find the information that they give is just meaningless at best. Maybe this is different in a boosted application, don’t know on that score.

I personally just think that it’s a lot of stuffing around just for that gauge.

If your going to mod in an external oil cooler, then fit the sender in with that job.

Oil temp is in VCDS. I believe it is in the Instruments section, but I will check later. The sensor in the bottom of the oil pan reads both temp and level, but the temp reading is not “attached” to anything on the S4 for some reason (my Touareg has an oil temp gauge, go figure).

And confirming Bs comment on the oil pressure switch. It only reads on/off. Once the pressure drops below a certain level it triggers the warning, but it does not send a reading that varies based on the oil pressure. I also agree with the the suggestion on running a line from the distribution block where the stock safety switch is. The 1.8ts are set up this way for an oil feed to the turbo. My guess is with the consistency of Audi in the way they engineer things, the distribution block is probably pretty similar.

Edit: Added VCDS readout…

Below are readouts from Instrument (17) section of VCDS on my B6. Measuring block 50 is oil temp…

Well that’s good to know that it’s just a safety switch. I will try unplugging the connector and bridging the terminals to confirm if that will keep the light off. If that works, then all I have to do is unscrew the OEM sensor and screw in the auto meter unit. Easy as pie. I will keep you guys posted.

Speed - that’s pretty awesome. I didn’t know you could do that.

Can you guys do ADVANCED MEASURING BLOCKS on the S4? I couldn’t when I had an S4 but I always assumed it was because of my old cable. I can do it on the RS4 though with that cable. It’s great because you don’t need to use groups, you can literally just pick the one or two things you want to log.

i.e. in speed’s thing above, he is logging engine speed twice, unnecessarily. If this were a log where he needed a good sample rate, having too many items logged would bog the cable/software down. He may also not give a fuck about ‘time of day’ or ‘odometer’ but he’s forced to include it because they’re in the groups with the stuff he wants.

p.s. 130,000 miles? wow. You vs. BlueRocket vs. 2000S4 for the high mileage title!

Saki, On the B8 I can do advanced and with 7 or 8 fields being logged I can get a rate of .2 seconds between sample… You need to hit turbo mode and then group by…

yea, I meant the B6/7 guys.

as for products I want, since I have an RS4 I’ll make a list

  1. supercharger that will push the RS4 into the mid-low 11s @ 120+ mph on 93 octane pump gas
  2. something to stop carbon buildup from re-occurring
  3. a giant spoiler and a goofy front lip
  4. a resonated exhaust that is open enough to allow the RS4 to breathe, but retains the S button valves so I don’t sound like a hooligan in my neighbourhood…and that uses stock or stock replica RS4 tips to limit the ‘modded’ look

LOL… Yeah, I used to drive it a lot for work trips (to NJ, Philly and NC). I don’t do those runs anymore, but I still try to get on the road as much as possibly.

I have done advanced before, but I cannot remember if it was on my car. I want to say yes, but I logged so many cars I cannot remember (I’m getting old…)

I want a shorter throw shifter. I have the JHM SS on the shortest setting but I still wish it was a little shorter.

Saki:

I’ve been able to do advanced several times on the 05.5 B7, so I would assume it’s possible on the B6 with the right cable. I usually still just do normal measuring blocks though as I usually want RPM or other things and can do “Turbo” on normal measuring blocks (does that really speed up the readings?). But the Advanced is nice if you want a couple random blocks or just one specific and can’t remember which measuring block group it would be under.

B6JoeS4:
I also agree, but am shocked that adding the SS JHM knob made if feel like the throws are shorter. I don’t know if it’s just because of the extra weight, or the dimensions of the knob (I think the circumference is close to stock right?). But you might really want to think about picking one up while they’re on sale. It really was a nice finishing touch to the trio pkg.

Were us tge stock saftey pressure awitsh located cause I need and oil press. Gauge real bad

oil filter housing, on the driver’s side… I’ll pull up a pic
