Products WE want!

Looking forward to that Joe, I have been wanting to put Podi in my car for a while.

I would pull the stock pressure safety switch and run a line from there to a distribution block where you could have the pressure sender and safety switch together. Or just eliminate the safety switch (splice the wires together should keep the light off) and run the pressure sensor from there

Not quite sure if the same applies, but on the rally car, the oil pressure sender fits in place of the oil pressure switch.

Just a question tho, what are you going to do with the information that it provides ?

Okay it will show that your picking up oil from the pan and shooting it around the engine, but then the question is what is the acceptable range.

I have the pressure gauge in two cars and honestly I find the information that they give is just meaningless at best. Maybe this is different in a boosted application, don’t know on that score.

I personally just think that it’s a lot of stuffing around just for that gauge.

If your going to mod in an external oil cooler, then fit the sender in with that job.

Oil temp is in VCDS. I believe it is in the Instruments section, but I will check later. The sensor in the bottom of the oil pan reads both temp and level, but the temp reading is not “attached” to anything on the S4 for some reason (my Touareg has an oil temp gauge, go figure).

And confirming Bs comment on the oil pressure switch. It only reads on/off. Once the pressure drops below a certain level it triggers the warning, but it does not send a reading that varies based on the oil pressure. I also agree with the the suggestion on running a line from the distribution block where the stock safety switch is. The 1.8ts are set up this way for an oil feed to the turbo. My guess is with the consistency of Audi in the way they engineer things, the distribution block is probably pretty similar.

Edit: Added VCDS readout…

Below are readouts from Instrument (17) section of VCDS on my B6. Measuring block 50 is oil temp…

Well that’s good to know that it’s just a safety switch. I will try unplugging the connector and bridging the terminals to confirm if that will keep the light off. If that works, then all I have to do is unscrew the OEM sensor and screw in the auto meter unit. Easy as pie. I will keep you guys posted.

Speed - that’s pretty awesome. I didn’t know you could do that.

Can you guys do ADVANCED MEASURING BLOCKS on the S4? I couldn’t when I had an S4 but I always assumed it was because of my old cable. I can do it on the RS4 though with that cable. It’s great because you don’t need to use groups, you can literally just pick the one or two things you want to log.

i.e. in speed’s thing above, he is logging engine speed twice, unnecessarily. If this were a log where he needed a good sample rate, having too many items logged would bog the cable/software down. He may also not give a fuck about ‘time of day’ or ‘odometer’ but he’s forced to include it because they’re in the groups with the stuff he wants.

p.s. 130,000 miles? wow. You vs. BlueRocket vs. 2000S4 for the high mileage title!

Saki, On the B8 I can do advanced and with 7 or 8 fields being logged I can get a rate of .2 seconds between sample… You need to hit turbo mode and then group by…

yea, I meant the B6/7 guys.

as for products I want, since I have an RS4 I’ll make a list

  1. supercharger that will push the RS4 into the mid-low 11s @ 120+ mph on 93 octane pump gas
  2. something to stop carbon buildup from re-occurring
  3. a giant spoiler and a goofy front lip
  4. a resonated exhaust that is open enough to allow the RS4 to breathe, but retains the S button valves so I don’t sound like a hooligan in my neighbourhood…and that uses stock or stock replica RS4 tips to limit the ‘modded’ look

LOL… Yeah, I used to drive it a lot for work trips (to NJ, Philly and NC). I don’t do those runs anymore, but I still try to get on the road as much as possibly.

I have done advanced before, but I cannot remember if it was on my car. I want to say yes, but I logged so many cars I cannot remember (I’m getting old…)

I want a shorter throw shifter. I have the JHM SS on the shortest setting but I still wish it was a little shorter.

Saki:

I’ve been able to do advanced several times on the 05.5 B7, so I would assume it’s possible on the B6 with the right cable. I usually still just do normal measuring blocks though as I usually want RPM or other things and can do “Turbo” on normal measuring blocks (does that really speed up the readings?). But the Advanced is nice if you want a couple random blocks or just one specific and can’t remember which measuring block group it would be under.

B6JoeS4:
I also agree, but am shocked that adding the SS JHM knob made if feel like the throws are shorter. I don’t know if it’s just because of the extra weight, or the dimensions of the knob (I think the circumference is close to stock right?). But you might really want to think about picking one up while they’re on sale. It really was a nice finishing touch to the trio pkg.

Were us tge stock saftey pressure awitsh located cause I need and oil press. Gauge real bad

oil filter housing, on the driver’s side… I’ll pull up a pic

awsome cause i need to install a guage to moniter the oil press. thank you

ok so i got the gauge mounted and the wiring fed just need to know if the press. sender from autometer will fit in the saftey switch location. i am about to start removing stuff to get at it.

^I’m actually working on the same thing. The autometer sender is huge which is the issue i’m hoping I don’t run into. Might just have to get a right angle adapter. Sucks finding things in 10mm.

How are you installing the 1/4" threads into the 10mm stock opening?

Ok so my first attempt was a fail cause my sensor has a single wire. Did a two into one with the wire and well it doesnt work . So now my neighbor has a elbow fitting from his tt that we will try. Its from 42dd and we will install that to the housing and then add a line to it to make installing the autometer sensor a breeze. Then run a 5volt constant to the original single wire. So no light and a working gauge.

Take a pic of the whole setup when you’re done. Did you confirm that the autometer won’t fit?

^Would you two mind starting a thread in the S4 section? This could be very helpful for a lot of people, but I doubt many will find it in here.

yes it just a hair to long. And looks to bee more headace then I want right now
