This thread makes you realise how much care and attention to detail goes into their R&D. The flywheel post especially. Love the S5 motor pics; one can fully appreciate how headers are worth what their charging when you think what little space there is in there.
PS is the S5 owner on here? forced89? Plus who’s is the grey RS4? V. nice!
I don’t know the S5 owner. It was a faaaaaaaaaaaar away license plate though (far from Detroit, where those pics were shot anyway). The owner of the silver S4 pictured above was a nice guy. Good looking too. ;D
p.s. did you get a chance to see the grey RS4 in that one pull that I posted up?
So the owner of the DG RS4 that is APR S/C was at the S5 gtg…a few names come to mind, none owned an RS4 that i knew of. Bunch-o-sneaky-bitches-yall-are-bei’n.
Im really surprised at how low the level of excitment seems on the s5 forums in regards to these headers. Im eager to see them completed , hear them, see the numbers they put down on the track… and i dont even own an S5 …
The guys on a5oc.com were busy with superchargers and arguing with saki lol. I’m another excited by headers I bought my car after jhm emailed me details of their header program.
nope, owner wasn’t there. He needed a new clutch, so his car was there. Justincredible very kindly put that clutch and flywheel in for him almost on his own. Problem was there was no transmission lift…well not a normal one anyway. Instead, there was a human version present who took the entire transmission on his shoulder and gently lowered it to the ground, all on his own. It had to weigh close to 200 lbs.
you definitely don’t know the RS4 owner. Not a forumite.
like the B8 S4 world…the S5 world is a ‘different’ crowd for the most part. Maybe more so.
I don’t think they, as a community, quite grasp what is happening for their cars. The B6/7 world was similar way back when…we didn’t know what to expect out of this ball of stainless steel pythons. We were all numb from shitty performance parts doing nothing for our cars, so for the most part we all just sort of shrugged and waited to see what happened.
The B8 S4 guys are all excited about performance parts for their cars, but it’s kind of funny…there’s really only one part that’s definitely adding any power. That’s the tune or tune/pulley which frees up the system to make full boost right up to redline. Everything else??? Whenever I try to engage the B8 guys in a discussion about their exhaust setups they say ‘primetime ran XX.X’. I bet if we took a car with just the APR 100 octane tune, ran it on race gas…it would be just about equal with the quarter mile times (same day same track) as another APR 100 octane tuned car with all the bolt ons. As I’ve said a few times, none of them really know if their parts really work…beacause there is really very little testing or data out there. Sure there are a few dynos provided by the sellers but I’d like to see someone do a test like I outlined above to really see what’s up. Comparing quarter mile times is nice, but tough because they have one guy who is lights out faster than everyone else…then a bunch of fast guys…then a bunch of guys running 13s with full bolt ons. It’s a weird thing.
Somehow he got his hands on a JHM stage 5 clutch…this fellow from up north? You must know him personally based on some of the info you have provided previously.
Are the break in procedures fro the stage 5 clutch different from the other stages?
So Justin has a strong core and shoulder…how come your 6’4" frame didn’t help him? Justin you should have punched anyone within reach who was watching and didn’t help.
I’ve never met him…I’ve seen his car a couple of times though (everytime I’m in Detroit it seems to be kicking some ass)
While Justin is certainly strong, he wasn’t totally left alone on the tranny drop. There were 4 people holding it and lowering it out of the car…I think Jay and someone else from JHM…then Justin and CountVohn. As they were taking it out with the last attachments released, the Count just said ‘everyone let go and get out of the way’. It was hilarious. Real superhero shit. At VAST I saw him lift a B5 S4 right over his head. Well not true, but he did lift the one side off the ground…and that was fucking ridiculous.
it was a pretty much stock car, and is still having headers developed etc. so probably no clips or anything yet.
S5s have a really badass exhaust note. I say that not as a Honda Civic owner with V8 envy, but as someone who owned a reasonably badass S4 and a stock RS4. The three cars all have a different sound. The S5 has a neat little bit of roll to the exhaust with a serious amount of bark.
Didn’t realize it was still in development. i thought maybe they were finished.
Yes, agreed. One of my employees has an S5 (bone stock - female, has no interest in mods etc) and her car sounds great at high rpms. I was following her onto a highway on ramp recently and when she stepped on it I was surprised how much sound came from it. A decent tone for sure.
