WOW!~ I had no idea headers are in development??? I was under the impression the supercharger was coming first then bolt-ons.
that could still be true, but we’ll see I guess.
How’s your car…did you ever get tuned?
Nope, I have yet to run the vag-com to collect the info that was requested of me :-[
Countvohn…how’s the S5 coming?
Thanks for the reminder. Its actually done, but just starting. The project car we started off with has some cam and timing guide and hardware issues. Lucky we have more cars to work with but this car for the project and public showing is going to be getting the needed repairs before we even think about getting power added to the car.
The headers are done and the jiggs are going to be finished by the first of the year. There is still lots of testing that goes into the headers. We have been testing them in a computer simulation and next month the bench test simulation will be done to verify that are flow requirements and shifting of the TQ curve worked as planed.
There were several things that we started to take into consideration when making the headers. Obviously they needed to work but they needed to have a large amount of user ability to them. We had to meet requirements in pipe size, length and minimal bend usage to actually create the “tuned length and pulse draw” that is needed to make headers work. Headers are more then just pipes its a new system to make for a better VE of the motor.
While doing all this we had the last requirement to meet and that is having this be able to bolt up to a real catback and not make a part where customers were going to have to get or have a custom exhaust made to work.
Here is how they look and we are getting the first few testers for our catback system as well.

Then the other side. Keep in mind as I said. The entire time you have to battle making the headers fit while still making sure to build and run the pipeing in a fashion that actually does something.

Then the catback.

There is still more to come. I just wanted to pop in and add what you guys have been asking for. Keep in mind this project is much farther along. Still for the sake of saying it. JHM won’t release or talk about releasing a product before its ACTUALLY been tested. Were not here to sell parts for the sake of selling parts.
Drop dead gorgeous pipes there count. How many times did you guys have to stop and scratch your head to make these fit.
I cannot wait to hear this come to life
It’s great to see the evolution of a product like this. Man, that’s a lot of physics and flow dynamics that go into those headers. Every little bend and twist has some relevance in the puzzle. Brilliant.
wow they almost look like 180* headers they pop up so much
they just look crazy.
great update. It’s making me vomit just thinking how much work this is.
I wonder what they’re going to sound like? Also, are they bigger diameter than the S4/A6 4.2 headers? They look different.
Great post! Looking forward to more as the build progresses…
X2 on all points.
My lands they looks A LOT more intensive then the S4 headers in some regards, and the Passenger side appears to have a much more sever uptick, is that an issue with firewall or other components? It’s amazing when you look in the engine bay, you’re just thinking no way more crap can fit!
Also don’t forget, you’re also having to design to allow for the transmission to be removed at a later date, which it’s tight as it stands stock.
Anyhow, they look great, and I certainly don’t want to be the one who has to wrap those suckers up! Looking forward to more updates!!!
Great update! Amazing to see all the work go into these projects. Keep it up guys!
Wow, that just looks crazy. I like it ;D
I have to say this is very exciting and impressive. Awaiting more. When can we expect to hear more about this project and its parts.
Thank God!!! I can’t tell you how long I’ve been searching for somebody who can take this phenomenal engine to the next level. So tired of people telling me “N/A is dead…”
Keep up the great work and can’t wait to see the next post!
M.
we need updates!
updates please??
what does the S5 with headers & catback sound like?
^souds like chirping crickets to me. . .
A quick update on this car. During the install the clutch and flywheel. We went back and decided to look and make sure the chain, guides, and tensioners were all in good order. On that inspection we found there was a issue. Turns out the dealer had the motor out of the car. It looked like the dealer was trying to possibly cheaply fix an issue in the chain system. This just caused more issues and we are now addressing it and fixing it for free to help support the build.
damn, sucks to hear about the chains… excited to see more pictures of the clutch/flywheel/headers
