Questions regarding JHM tune/tuning in general

So I have some questions regarding tuning, sorry I’m a newb at technical motor work and I’m always trying to learn as much as I can and I had a few questions regarding the tune since I am probably ordering it soon and figured a new thread would be good incase anyone else had some questions as well.

I have a JHM SS, can the stock ECU handle the short shifts because I am able to basically shift with very little RPM’s dropping, or do you need tuning to adapt for that?

Can someone please just explain the basics of what a tune does? adjust timing? air/fuel mix? removes rev and top end limiters??

Can someone explain how LA works? what kind of effects does that have on a car and what modifcations if any should be done prior to launching a car?

Great question.

BEing that Im in the industry and actually tune cars. I can tell you there are two kinds of tunes in the Audi comunity

a basic tune and a JHM Tune.

Most tunes change 5 or 6 things
The Revlimit= no power
The speed limit= no power
Pedel input= fake as hell performance. YOu push the pedal 20% it opens the throttle 60%
Ram tons of timing at the car= very little due to the car just correcting due to too much cylinder pressure
Attempts to move the fuel curve= not much to anything as the cars still go and correct there fuel
turning off CEL parts of the ECU= FAIL FAIL FAIL… why turn them off when you can adjust them… seems only JHM can adjust them.

Thats what you can expect with the "basic unitronic GIAC ECT ETC…

The JHM Tune changes over 150 things. I don’t know exactly now many but I know its over 150 so 150 to be safe

Its the only tune thats developed for how you drive. Not for how it looks on a dyno sheet.

The thing about tuning a audi as I understand it is that. The ECU is set for running a certian way. when you open up your exhaust the car is going to run different to a point when you put X part or Y part the car is going to run different.

The JHM tune opens up the cars ability to learn and to adapt. The JHM Tune isn’t just looking for peak power its looking for your car to run better and safer. Power is great but most of these BASIC tunes don’t take into consideratiojn certian things. like safty of your motor. when say your jhm tune will detune itself if the motor gets too hot or if you have cats and they get too hot.

Im sure the 3.0 guys hate to hear your car is going to detune it self a little bit with the JHM Tune but aleast its not going ot leave you stranded on the side of the road.

Its things like working with how the cams adjust working on how the timing adjusts when you request more throttle working on how the throttle isn’t going to lag how the fuel reacts to your input. making the system work together to make more power. not just tyring to force one part of the system to make power. That if you ask me is what makes a JHM Tune and thats what makes for the much better performance on all sides.

Thanks Chris I was hoping someone with more knowledge would answer the Op’s questions. It truly is amazing how in depth the tune goes. I try to explain to people what is getting done to my computers and they just tell me it is going to be like a cookie cutter tune and I have to stop them and explain that it is so much more and it has been developed by a company that has several of the fastest Audi’s in the world. Its just so hard to explain and not being able to demonstrate at this point in time.
