R8 Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel eBay

Found this carbon fiber R8 steering wheel with no airbag for $1099+ $29 shipping which is a great deal of you ask me. Unfortunately it has paddle shifters otherwise I’d probably buy it.

could u not take them off? that wheel would look nice in th rs with all the matching carbon.

I figured the answer would be no but I guess I could be wrong. Wouldn’t there just be an empty hole or gap on each side if you removed them?

pretty surethat’s not OEM

I think so too. Maybe check for more pictures seeing if they have part numbers stamped on it. If it was an r8 wheel wouldn’t it have some markings on it.

they take a stock wheel and modify it

“This auction is a Audi carbon top sportive design steering wheel”

They take a wheel, modify the fuck out of it, re-leather it, and then sell it with a bunch of misleading shit in the title.

maybe take the paddles out, cut them down flush and polishem out? I wont do the steering wheel unless I can have all the buttons working and I get a ridiculously good deal on one. I def like the fbsw but I just look at that money better spent trying to faster.

I would only go oem though if that things been all tampered with I wouldn’t buy it.

Its FauxEM

When it comes to a steering wheel, I personally won’t install anything that has been structurally modified by an aftermarket vendor or individual. My feeling is that the OEM wheels are designed to react a certain way in a crash, and I don’t want to mess with that.

In a crash, a modified wheel may not break when it is supposed to, and you could end up with more damage to your body instead. Or, end up with a chest full of carbon fiber splinters.

OEM wheels are very affordable anyway, even the high end ones. It is the damn airbags that cost big bucks.

Most of the time the “aftermarket customization” is usually just some additional padding/contouring or shaping slightly. It certainly not an OEM piece, but it’s still started from an OEM piece. I don’t see the big hangup. My only concern would be wear & tear if it was alcantara or if it’s just sub-par leather/etc used that doesn’t match the interior.

I’d have a very hard time imagining the slight contouring is dramatically changing the structural makeup and enforcement. Kinda starting to split hairs with hypothetical events that have an very low chance of occurring imo.

At the end of the day just know what your buying. Like Saki said, it’s not a Audi production wheel, so don’t pay a price that matches what you could get an Audi production wheel for.

yeah, just padding.

Still, just get an R8 V10 wheel or an RS6 wheel. Fat, great looking, OEM, and you will be able to EASILY sell it when you sell your car, and probably recoup 75% of what you paid for it.

I was only considering because I thought it might OEM. The R8 steering wheels generally go for over $2k without an airbag.

I picked up my used RS6 4F steering wheel for 300 Euro shipped (included with some other parts), so $2k for a wheel with no airbag sounds insane.

Just keep an eye on ebay.co.uk. and ebay.de. What I do is translate the English part name to German (e.g. “Steering wheel” is “lenkrad”) and then setup alerts using StuffAlert.com. I have no idea about an R8 wheel, but the RS6 4F wheels pop up for 400 Euro or less in used condition.

one just sold for $1300 on audizoo classifieds, with airbag

An R8 steering wheel or RS6? Wish I saw that. I also kinda like this one:

I’d just want to wrap the silver in carbon fiber and I’d have to figure out what to do about all of the buttons I couldn’t use.

i quite like that wheel. which one is that?

It says it’s the newest TT s-line wheel. Not bad of a price either. $1055 shipped with airbag.

Both are nice… anybody know if that would fit in a B7 S4, and what harness/adapter you would need?

What do airbags run? Can you transfer the airbag from your stock wheel?

I’m assuming it’d fit a b6/7 s4 but I may be wrong. I’ve never done a steering wheel swap so I’m not exactly sure what’s involved and what’s compatible. Airbags are what I hear are the expensive part going up as much as $800. The last steering wheel I posted comes with one though which is awesome considering it’s brand new, has the airbag, and is very reasonably priced.

Yeah plus i wouldnt want to be messing around with an airbag… not something you want to hope you installed right!

I don’t like the new b8 wheels. The stitching is sharp and uncomfortable and I don’t think they’re 100% air leather.

The wheel that sold for $1300 is complete was an R8 5.2
