Dear JHM, maker of all things awesome. For Christmas this year I would like to swap an R8 rear caliper, and parking brake on my RS4 with a set of custom 2pc rotors. Is this a direct swap, or something that would need to be made? Might be a cool product offering.
I have a set of R8 rear calipers that I got for helping a local R8 guy. They are nice four piston calipers but it would take a custom bracket to get them to bolt up correctly. Then you would need the separate small parking brake caliper.
I think that you are better off with just lightweight rear brake rotors, better pads, and SS lines.
Don’t you have a RS4? If so then you can dump a bunch of money for the StopTech rear BBK that uses a 355 rear rotor, 4 piston calipers, and separate small parking brake caliper.
Jimmy are those the same P/N as the Porsche rear 4 pots? Only asking because im going to be doing a BBK this winter. I have a guy who is making brackets to fit the S4 that will hold the Porsche 4 pot, Wilwood E brake and fit A8 size rotors.
The part numbers according to a quick look on ECStuning are 420615407G and 420615408G. I can go dig them out of the back of the shed if you want me to confirm the part numbers.
EDIT: After thinking about it. I doubt that the part numbers are the same because these should be labeled R8. The Porsche ones are probably different because of the labeling even if it physically is the same caliper under the paint.
I saw the stoptech option. However, i wanted a nice oem look with factory audi (brembo) calipers. Id re paint to match the fronts and put the rs logos to match.
Ok cool. Otherwise those calipers will just sit there collecting dust until I repaint them and make them into paper weights.
Could always repaint the StopTechs. Just saying. To be honest once you go away from a single piston rear brake caliper then any Audi enthusiast would notice it isn’t OEM. Ignorant people wouldn’t know or be able to tell the difference anyways.
Brembo also sells a rear BBK but you would need to fab up a way to mount the separate small parking brake caliper setup. They use something crazy like 4 piston calipers and 380 rear rotors. You can even get the fancy GT-R calipers for like $8Kish US that westwest888 is running on his B8 S4 in the front.
I heavily looked into bigger brakes for my B6 S4 for a while. Even got a set of rear RS4 lower suspension, wheel bearings/housings, and axles. Also did a comparison thread in the DIY section.
