There are a few things in there that I noticed. Like the valve covers are the camshaft ladder frame with the top half of the bearings like the 2.0T in your B8 avant and the tools for the camshaft timing are different. Then certain parts are not replaceable separately like the oil thermostat so if it goes than you need a whole new upper oil pan. I bet that fluid front dampener to really helps with the cylinder deactivation. Also good luck if you have a fuel injector go or need a carbon clean from either the intake valves or secondary air ports.
can’t remember but did you chime in on the rs4 thread about kooolades car? He mentioned something strange about valve cover gaskets being replaced on one side so you had to buy a whole new valve cover. WTF?
No that was NY07RS4. That is a totally different issue than what I brought up about the 4.0TT. The updated valve cover for the RS4 I think was to address an issue that they will not so easily reveal. They probably charge so much to try to cover the losses from the old bad part since they had enough made to cover all the possible replacements in the future but because it is bad then all those parts are wasted material/inventory. The same thing happened with the convertible tops for the B6/7s and they actually ran out of convertible tops before another company steped up to supply tops.
The point that I was making about the valve cover for the 4.0TTs was that you can’t just pull the valve cover off because that will break the camshafts from the tension of the timing chains. The older engines before the 2.0 TFSI had bearing caps or a seperate ladder frame that held the camshafts in place under the valve cover but now that is being built into the valve cover. It saves weight and reduces cost but it will be expensive as hell if that sealant starts leaking out of warranty.
I understand, i just wondered if you knew why that was happening. He wanted me to get him valve cover gaskets from here because apparently we haven’t made that change. Just the one side.
