Rear Rotor replacement

Hi All,

my 2009 s6 needs new brake rotors to pass inspection. I would have done the replacement myself, however, I am lacking the time.

I received a call from the shop that the repair requires unbolting the rear shocks and adding 1.5 hrs of labour. Looking at my manual, there is no mention across the manual that this needs to be done. I get that the lower bracket bolt is a pain in the ass to reach…but has anyone seen this in their manuals or experienced this?

I use the e-manual.

thanks

Jeff

I have done this job myself.

The rear shock does not need to be unbolted.

I have also replaced rear rotors and no need to unbolt shock.

Yup, +2 on not needing to undo the shock. I replaced them when I first bought the car and am about to redo rotors all around. No need for shock unbolting.

Thanks to All! I ended up having to cover the extra labour as it was performed. However I shared both my service manual with them and the feedback from here, indicating it was not necessary. This reinforces my belief that hiring a local shop in a pinch is always a bad idea…Unfortunately it was a time sensitive issue…

BTW…if in Alberta, a friend is selling his S6 C6 2008 for parts…$1000 CDN…I believe it is running…he had the heads off last I saw to repair an exhaust valve issue.
