replace/rebuild ECMs?

I may need to replace/rebuild my 2 ECMs, because they seem to have issues with hot weather.

I found these part numbers online but I’m not sure if they are correct or which one is ECU 1/2

Also found this site.

Any ideas, suggestions, warnings before I get too far into the process?

Yes before you get too far into this try contacting JHM. You have an imobilizer system and you cant just buy a ecu and put it in. They will have to make a clone for you. Also only a few ecus will work so you have to be careful.

Those prices looked kinda high to me.

Vagcom says the part number is the same for both units

Will call JHM and report

I remember that both my ECU’s are exactly the same part # as each other as well, though I can’t verify what part number that is. The link posted in the OP for the rebuilt ECU kit is suspicious, because the ECU’s look quite different from each other in their photo. My two ECU’s definitely are identical to each other, aside from the software contents of each.

Edit: Actually their photo says it’s not a photo of the actual product, so it might be ok. They claim to offer refunds if it doesn’t fix your problem, so maybe worth a try depending on what JHM says about it.

The thing about your ecus are that they need to be a pair.

Each side of the motor has its own ECU and one of the ECUs has to be set to be a slave unit. They should I believe technically be the same part number but you need to be very careful on what ecu is ecu 1 and ecu 2.

Still the thing about any of our ecus with the immobilizer is that you cant just go to a junk yard or any company and just get an ecu. That ecu you have is programmed to your car your dash board and your key fob. And it will only work on that car. Also because your car is a V10 you cant just get a set of RS4 V8 ECUs because your V10 ecu I believe has extra drivers for the extra coil packs and 02 sensors.

so its not a very easy thing to replace or to fix. JHM is known for being able to fix the dual ECUs for RS4 and other guys. So let us know what they say.

I spoke with Jake and the basic process is to get a pair of used ECUs from a “junkyard” car and JHM can copy the originals to make a “clone”. Then they are matched to the key/immobilizer.

I sent him an old vagcom scan so he could get the exact part/code numbers. Then he was going see if he could find anything that matched. So now I’m just waiting.
