Replacing Air Filter

Very, very novice question, but I’d rather ask than break something and be sorry later.

So just bought 2 K&N air filters, seems pretty simple but I want to ensure I’m doing everything correctly. So I see three screws on the actual air filter housing, there’s also the part of the intake that connects to the housing, then lastly the plastic portion in the front that can easily be removed to separate that part from the housing.

Is it that easy? How fragile are these plastic parts? More or less just need someone to walk me through the process.

Funny enough i just did a video on their removal,

Is it the same for S6? Ours looks slightly different than in that video.

Similar principal, screw location may be slightly different. DOnt know if you have a sound symposer but same deal.
Unhook MAFs, loosen all philips bolts (look with flashlight some are hidden), undo the clamps at the throttle bodies, and that should be it, wiggle the covers off.

you’ll need to pull the intact tracts - they’re not super fragile and can be worked a little bit. you’ll also need to disconnect the airboxes from the throttle bodies, and as i recall, move the coolant reservoir out of the way on the passenger side (going from memory…could be wrong). you will also need to disconnect some vacuum hoses (be careful, the connectors are fragile).

then once you do all that, there are the 3 screws for each side which you can pull. after that, you’ll have to pull the connector from the MAF sensor (pretty easy) and you should be home free.

i swear i had pictures of all this, but i’m starting to think i accidentally formatted the memory card before pulling them off the camera :frowning:

Exactly its pretty straight forward but If I was to just post walk though what I remember

1 make sure to disconnect the PCV connections on the back of the passenger side inlet just before the throttle body. They are finickey but they are push clips. Take your time and take those out first. You might need to remove the driver side intake tube from the throttle body and air box to get the most room.

2 make sure to do the same on the driver side but there isn’t any PCV connections on the driver side air inlet so just remove.

3 from there you will need to unplug the MAF sensor on both sides. Make sure to set that out of the way but try to place it up top and zip tie it out of the way.

4 Each air box should have 4 or 5 screws that hold the tops on. Take your time and make sure to find all of them. Loosen them and back them out all they way. They are held into the air box top so you might not be able to actually removed them…

5 after that take your time and on the I think passenger side look into the top portion of the air box. The SAI pipe pumps air into that side so you have to be careful and unhook that when you pull the air box top off.

6 once you have the driver or passenger side air box top off make sure to place a piece of duct tape on the driver side air box top if you don’t do them one at a time do the same with the MAF units. Even tho you have the SAI connection on the one side it can be easy to mix up the air box maf filter and air box tops if your not careful

7 at this point you should be able to see what needs to be done and its straight forward.

Keep in mind this is just from memory.
