Reseal the whole engine or just fix the head? V10 s6

So I have my engine out of my v10 s6 because of a cam gear failure and bent valves on right side head. The left side passed a leak down test so it’s still on the car. I need to send the right side for a valve job. I’m debating just fixing that side and putting the engine back in or resealing the whole engine. Any suggestions?

Sorry to hear about all that. If you can please take more pictures of the back of the motor timing system to see all of what failed. This isn’t a common thing.

To be honest with all that has gone wrong. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to pull off the other side and all of the other big seal spots that leak and fix them now. Its much eaiser to get to them now than with the motor back in the car.

Not only that but it will give you a good chance to inspect the rest of the motor for any damage. especially the oil pan

Well I pulled the oil pan, no chunks or surprises. Pulled the valve cover off the other head I’m going to reseal the cam bridge due to oil on top of the plugs. The main oil leak seems to be the oil filter housing seal.

Yeah while its out, do all that you can… also talk to the pros on this forum about headers/cats. maybe worth knocking them (cats) out…as you cant get to them in with the engine in place

Its free hp. If you want to get rid of the CEL get a JHM tune. Tons of power and no cel. Its a good excuse. Just make sure to Email the V10 address when asking for the catless tune.

How much louder with no cats and stock exhaust?

not much louder TBH with no cats. those mufflers really cut the noise down alot.
You wont really notice any gains with no cats and no tune. It will have more airflow, torque management will see that and act accordingly to bring it back in line with what the model air flow should look like. Tune will solve that.
But no cats with 3" X pipe exhaust sounds pretty friggin awesome :smiley:
