lol, I was thinking the same thing. Southbend typically makes quality stuff, the material may just not have been up to it. I really like carbon/kevlar over feramic/kevlar personally.
I thought SB was really good also being around diesel guys for a long time. That’s what they use.
Obviously their solution for our cars isn’t up to par. It just sucks I have to replace this thing again. Maybe this time I’ll yank the motor and throw some headers in there.
Or upgrade to an RS4.

your car would KILL just about any RS4 out there other than the SC cars…and even then you’ll be close (without spending a fortune). Looks awesome too…Dolphin Grey + BBS CH + BBK = mint. What’s your interior trim situation like? Matt @ Ocarbon has a set of Piano Black Titanium package trim for trade (free) right now. If you have wood…hit him up!
I have the OEM carbon fiber trim.
I really want to take this car to the next level. I’m waiting to see what the built motor options will be from JHM.
Then again I’ve never been the most patient person.

is this where cabracco goes?
dragaway is funny. It sounds like the guy painting the big sign out front messed up, and they just looked at it and said…fuk it. It’s easier to leave it.
Nope i go to NLR aka us41. I havent been to the track with my car awhile. I hope to make it to the track with the car by years end and run some 11s.
13.396 @ 104.16 mph for me with 1.911 60’
A bit dissapointed with my time, but for a first time at the 1/4 mile track i guess its “o.k.” lol
Info for your list Saki:
2006 S4 6MT // JHM 93 tune (94 gas) FI 2.5 catback // Miltek 2.5 catless DP’s // LWCP // LW front rotors // intake spacers // baby seat

thanks. I’ll update this week.
Gotta start an RS4 list. It’ll be a pretty sad list with like 8 quartermile times lol. Still with George’s 12.28 on the top of the NA heap, that’s pretty amazing.
More food for thought on that…12.2 = only 4 tenths away from the APR supercharger with no back seat or trunk stuff + race clutch time of 11.8. That’s pretty crazy.
I like the RS4’s being mixed in with the S4’s - certainly makes me realise how much the extra dough for the RS4 gets you. A lot IMO. WTF that guy on RS246 who thought your times were slow. What a fucking troll!

eff that…then my S4 will be faster than my RS4 time. Can’t have that…
In all seriousness, I think I’ll keep them separate though. Easier for everyone.
p.s. to your point though the fastest NA S4 is 12.70 @ 111.0 vs. 12.28 @ 112.4. A huge gap in ET, but MPH is similar. The ET gap would be around 4 car lengths. Interesting. Wonder what those two runs would look like vs. one another. Maybe we’ll line up the timeslips and create a simple little timeline simulation to see where the RS4 makes up those 4 tenths.
as for RS246 there are a few nice guys there, and some good basic info on the platform. I came across it while googling something to do with the wheels (struggling to find winters that will fit!). I posted a bunch of stuff there, including a link to the carbonator thing, and shared mine and 2000S4s results from yesterday, and all I got was fucking grief. I don’t get these forums…everyone wants to be so frigging skeptical about everything and everyone. The one guy (mister dark cloud) asked if I was paid by JHM. Motherfucker I’m going to have to talk to Jay about that one…because last time I checked I wrote him a cheque for about $4000 for all my S4 shit…turns out he should have been paying me? Damn.
Whatever…let them be slower. I love when people say ‘you can’t do that’ or ‘that’s not possible’ even though someone just showed them that it was done.
BEST part of that thread was the guys saying 12.28 vs. 13.1 wasn’t that big a difference. It really gives an indication of the level of understanding of NA performance…and of how hard it is to move a car almost 9 tenths of a second quicker down a track. Sure if I launched better I could maybe get a 12.9 out of it. So now it’s 6 full tenths, and it’s still going to be 6 mph. That’s huge at this level (don’t forget…we’re not starting at 15 seconds here…we’re starting at high 12s).
One guy told me my time was slow because he ran 12.6. Wow…awesome for a stock car (I think he’s an avant too). Turns out he meant on his pbox. Hmmm…ok. My car can run 10 seconds…as long as I get to control the timer. Oh and the road grade. lols all around.
Saki - email me if you want winter tire set-up alternatives that FIT. I have a great, fairly inexpensive set-up imo.

I find this hilarious! But think that you’re almost as fast as your old S4 but still emissions legal. Think of all of those trees.

I found it ironic they’re trying to call you out much like you have done to others. How d’ya like your own medicine? j/k The difference is that you have evidence. Independent and verifiable.

Clearly an armchair racer and has clearly never been to a strip. I have no idea where in the UK you could find a bit of straight, flat road to stop, launch and run a 1/4 mile. But this demonstrates one of the key reasons for going to the track - so you can appreciate how hard it is to chip away tenths from a 1/4 mile time.
I do like how old would’ve-destroyed-albertpe saki has gone and been replaced with hippie loveandhugs saki though.
TL;DR great times everybody!

I think its mostly gearing, the area under the curve for both in their powerband probably doesnt favor the RS4 radically… but the RS4s gearing makes for a better thrust curve. 3.89 to 4.11 isnt a huge jump but it helps a lot in other platforms. Poor man’s supercharger.
I’d be interested in seeing Jay vs Dan’s cars from a roll in various gears. I think in the higher gears the RS4 will not pull as hard, but from a first roll it’d probably be brutal.

really (re area under the curve)? I would have thought it’d be reasonably compelling. Weaker down low, stronger up top (for RS4).
Since mick went to 034 we could compare his chart to Jay’s pretty easily.
Full bolt on Jay was 317/310.
Full bolt on Mick was 359/286. That tune was on the J box…and the A box tunes are much more developed apparently (George/2000S4 was an A box). While that 286 wtq peak isn’t super, most of it (90% or so) is available from 2750 to 7500.

I honestly dont really trust 034s dyno results, theres the whole thing with ngng getting a 40x whp sheet but it was really 374whp. Cant recall the details at the moment though.
Also you know Jay does himself 0 favors when he dynos his car. The RS4 makes more power no doubt, itd be interesting to compare the thrust curves of an RS4 to an S4 with RS4 gearing.

yeah, that ngng thing was weird, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the NA dynos we’ve seen from there. Pretty consistent actually. All the SC S4/RS4 dyno numbers we saw from M90 kits were all over the map, so not sure it’s really a huge factor on what to trust.
The feedback I had from JHM was that if anything, mick’s car should have made even more tq/power…they weren’t happy with his dyno results. Dan’s car was even stronger when he went. Don’t have that sheet though. Chalk that up to the older cars (A) having a more developed tune.
A box vs J box? = different generations of RS4 ECU? Related to the part code or something?
From the discussion above, then could one consider putting an RS4 transmission into an S4 an upgrade? Or, if the trans meeds rebuilding, then doing a gearing mod much like the 6th gear mod?
And just for reference, the fastest times I could find were:
- APR’s (presumably stripped) RS4 went 11.8@122
- Full interior S4, JHM +baby seat went 11.96@116
This puts 2000s4’s time of 12.28@112 into perspective. The awesome perspective.
I wonder how the RS4 trans would feel in an S4. I assume Audi changed the ratios to accommodate for the higher RS4 redline.
The different box codes are just different revisions of the ECU IIRC. No one is better than the other, Audi just changes their mind an likes to show how well they know the alphabet.
yeah the higher revs can use the faster gears without changing up the top speed in each gear too much, so you can still hit 60 in 2nd where you may not in the lower rev motor with the quick gears

1st gear redlines up at like 40+ mph…and 2nd isn’t until 70. It’s weird.
I watched a vid I made of my car launching, and it took about 6 seconds to get to the top of 2nd (which was around where 60 came on a B567. I was thinking shit…that seems slow. The gtech said 4.39 though so I was confused. Then I read a road test with the top speeds in gears. Made sense after that.
