RNS-E Map DVD upgrade

Just got the 2015-2016 RNS-E map update DVDs (two of them) for my gen1 RNS-E.

I can’t find any directions, so being the enterprising lad I am, I simply removed the 2102 DVD in there, and replaced it with DVD1 of the current set. It didn’t prompt me for anything to do, but didn’t show any of my local streets, so I ejected it and replaced it with DVD2, and lo and behold, my streets!

Does anyone on here know better than me (be polite!) on what the new maps DVDs include, and if anything must be updated/upgraded other than the map contents on the DVDs?

I don’t know but I am also interested!

I actually did the same thing on Wednesday.

Before I had a burned copy of the 2015/2016 disc that would not read on a regular occasion so I got the Audi one from the dealership. Like you I wasn’t sure which disc to put in so I started with the DVD1 and nothing showed up on my screen. Didn’t get any prompts to update anything but I figured that might be ok since I had the burned copy before. Took out the DVD1 and put in DVD2 then it showed all the streets and stuff like it was supposed to.

Do you live on the right half of the USA? I ask because I do and I zoomed all the way out to 400 mile intervals to find that the roads appear to stop half way across the USA with the DVD2 Nav disc. Like there is nothing West of a hard line somewhere at the top of North Dakota and Canada then all the way down to Texas. In a few days I will be able to tell you if you have to swap Nav disks at some point halfway across the USA.

After I thought about this yesterday, it came to me that Audi could have run out of room on one DVD to fit everything for the USA. If you go through the Nav it lists a bunch of shit. I mean everything from special landmarks to ATMs and everything in between.

“right” as in correct? Or “right” as opposed to left? Yes to both.

Same here, looks like they crammed two DVDs worth of nav data in there.

Have a ball! Is Mt Rushmore as advertised from the other side?

Both kinds of “right”. We also have better gas out east too. This 91 octane piss water gas sucks! Washington state is slightly better with 92 octane but it isn’t hard to be just above the bottom of the barrel.

Yeah, I have pictures to illustrate the difference. Just need to get to my stopping point tonight to post them.

Thanks, I did. The gift store is pretty good there too. Made sure to raid their 50 state shot glass section. Gonna do a lot more shots in Cali. Actually have a funny story about my friends and I getting thrown out of a bar in Pittsburgh PA. Got sidetracked there but the back of Rushmore is not like that or like the National Treasure movie either. The roads around Mount Rushmore like US-16 are a lot of fun though.

Here are some pictures:

To start off with I am in Rapid City South Dakota with the DVD2 in the RNSE.

Now I am in Newcastle Wyoming with the DVD2 still in the RNSE.

So there is a good bit of overlap with the maps from like the Dakotas to Ohio. I think Audi did that so that people wouldn’t have to constantly switch between discs.

It would also be nice if my DVD1 didn’t keep getting overheated and actually work properly but that is a different problem for a different day. Have a good night folks.
