I started a thread on quattrofail about the EPL tune to see if anyone had been EPL tuned. I wanted to see if anyone here knew about it, but not really threadworthy, so I thought I’d start a random chit chat thread for random posts. Not necessarily just RS4 related, but here it is.
So I ask…anyone heard anything about the EPL ‘custom’ tune? Last year we had a great big argument about the EPL tune in which a bunch of quattrofail guys insisted a custom tune was superior to say the JHM tune. They said other things like ‘those who have already invested in exhaust etc. would benefit from a custom tune’…and they were talking about catback exhausts etc. Anyway, it turned into a big EPL love in for the great things the EPL tune would offer…and then the topic fizzled out.
1 guy got tuned, dyno’d resonably well (mostly torque gains, indicative primarily of the torque limiter in third gear being removed) and then nobody else did. I mean out of the 50 or so regular posters on the forum…nothing.
Anyone know anymore on the EPL tune for the RS4? Anyone else know if that 1 guy (RS MANIAC) ever went to the dragstrip? He loved his EPL tuned RS4 so much, he immediately went out and bought a BMW 1M lol. Haven’t heard much from him since.
and by you mean “catback” exhaust several were just “axel back” exhausts lol.
Yea it was interesting b/c it got very intense there for a while. Pretty shocking how silent that is now. Someone needs to bump that thread up and ask for results & opinions.
the custom tune defenders were rocking proper catbacks for the most part. I think the only axle back car was NY07RS4 with his Tubi setup and as always he was interested in learning more about the car/ECU than bitching. The custom tune supporters had mostly Milltek catbacks and the one guy with Capristo
Yes, I currently have Tubi axle back mufflers. I never stated or felt they would add power or require a tune fwiw. I fell in love with the sound and could not pass up the crazy deal I got on them. That being said, I also own the JHM 2.75" full, catless, exhaust and will be installing it this spring. I may have the end section (muffler + a couple inches of pipe) modified with the tri-bolt (i forget the proper term, the same style hardware used to mate DP’s to the cat back section) modified so that I can swap back and forth between the Sebrings and the Tubi’s. (Yes i know there is a difference between the diameters). This will allow me to test both for; sound, power, track times etc. If I end up liking the Sebrings enough I’ll put the Tubi’s upfor sale. I’d bet a 2liter of coke (haha Saki bet reference) that I MAKE money on the Tubi’s and still kill any other deal currently out there. That’s how good the deal I received was. I simply could not pass up the deal.
If it’s the thread I’m thinking of it’s the one where Dan from JHM finally stepped in and contributed some good info. He explained a bunch of things. At some point it was noted that a custom tune usually isn’t required until cams/head work etc is introduced to a N/A motor. That helped me personally get past what I had learned from racing sportbikes. Long story short, there was some good info in that thread.
^I actually don’t fault you at all. Tubi mufflers are the one that I actually can see people come close to justifying for sound. It’s so unique and amazing imo. A friend has it on his 997 C4S and Maserati GranSport, they both sound phenomenal. But as mentioned, it’s for the sound and not a complete performance replacement of stock.
I think everyone will be looking forward to the info you share about the various builds that you test.

haha trying to distance yourself from that conversation, huh? lol. We know that anyway…that’s why I posted that you were more interested in learning than being a bizzatch. Personally I’d sell the tubi mufflers and recoup a big chunk of what you just paid for the JHM. The JHM is pretty growly and angry.

asskisser
^ever since these three videos, I’ve wanted some tubi mufflers. . .

I care about sound a lot, hell, I gave up performance for months on the sake of sound! (cutouts lol)
oh yeah, that was awesome. I wish we had more photos of that mangled welding mess.
that sounds amazing, pretty loud for DD though. I don’t think that type of sound is possible on an S4
anyone got anything on the EPL tune? Fuck the Tubi lol.

I assure you, an S4 wih JHM headers, catless 2.5" FI downpipes, and non-res 2.5" FI exhaust with x-pipe, is on par with that as far as loudness…and it sounds crazy!
Just listen to this absolute beast http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8Im_QCPFoQ
And this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkOK9Y3vv7M&feature=endscreen&NR=1 Not the best video/sound quality but holy crap that sounds freaking insane!

oh yeah, that was awesome. I wish we had more photos of that mangled welding mess.
hahaha, fuck you. I got em, but have opted out of sharing them. Say what you want (the obvious) but it was a lot of fun when cruising around and sounded pretty darn good (piggies and x pipe to nothing else basically). Now I just have a F.I. that vast decided to weld together and I had to use a air grinder to un-weld, thanks vast. . . .
Karsty is right…watch my youtube video of s4/rs4 dragstrip day…the first clip is 2.5 catless + FI b7 s4 revving then 2.75 full catless + catback rs4 revving, side by side. The s4 is a million times louder. P.s. This is a good preview for ny07rs4 for his jhm exhaust
The idling lumpy cammy sound is a big fomestic behind the camera

I want to add a note here. I was pulled over friday for sound.
Saki remember the service road that goes up to the audi dealer you came to see me at?
I did a hard 1,2,3 up that twisty road which is uphill. It was LOUD!
I get into the dealership to pick up some parts i ordered and next thingi knew a cop car was behind me, cop was out and YELLING at me…
This is how the conversation went:
cop “WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THING YOUR DOING?” He was about 20 feet away from me.
me “Are you yelling at me sir?” (at this point i figure he is after me for no front plate)
cop “What the fuck was that back there?”
me “Sir im not sure i follow that your refering to”
cop “are you in some kind of hurry?”
me " what do you mean?" (he was already pissed for some reasoin but now i guess he thinks im playing dumb. But i REALLY had no idea what the fuck he was talking about and im sure it showed in my confused face)
cop “you came up that god damn hill like a fucking maniac”
me " sir my car just sounds loud, i let off the gas at 70 km/h"
cop “give me you papers… im taking your car for stunt driving”
me “Really? going 70 km/h in a 70km/h zone is considered stunt driving?”
cop went to his car, came back 5 min later and just said “you pull that shit again i WILL take your car”
so yeah… its LOUD! lol
What a prick. I keep hearing about all these stories of cops being complete and utter douchebags.
Unfortunately, I don’t hear many of cops acting respectful and cordial…
I do have one story. Last week I was driving down a street amongst traffic. 50 zone but school signs were flashing so lowered down to 40. I was behind two other cars (they were doing 45) and I was doing 40.
Therefore, the gap between me and the car in front got wider. Then, suddenly, a female cop storms out onto the street and flags me and the driver behind me down. I pull over, I turn the car off and wait. The cop is talking to the driver behind me and I’m wondering wtf just happened. Cop finally comes over to me so I lower my window and she tells me she was pulling over the guy behind me and not me. That I was free to go and THANKED me for being cautious and pulling over just in case. She was older (fifties) and extremely sweet. Very nice and respectful. I answer no problem, started the car and drove away.
There are some nice respectful traffic cops out there. They’re just so damn hard to find…
what a fucking geek cop
they think that law makes them superfuckingheroes. I hate it.
For those who don’t know, there’s a new law called stunt driving that includes shit like doing donuts, burnouts, sqealing tires or speeding more than 30mph over the limit. That carries an immediate 7 day suspension of license, 7 day impound, $2000 (minimum) to $10,000 fine, enough demerit points and insurance hit that you may as well have been driving drunk…and about $750 in fees for the impound that, EVEN IF FOUND NOT GUILTY…you still have to pay and never get back.
So basically if a cop gets mad at you he can say ‘you were doing xxx’ and it costs you $750. Get pulled over for going 10mph over the limit and mouth off? Stunt driving charge out of thin air means you’re fucked for $750 even if you have it on video that he made it up.
Recently they’ve added another thing to the stunt driving law - turning left ahead of traffic when you don’t have an advance green turn arrow. a.k.a. the light turns green and you’re waiting to turn left…th epeople on the other side are slow to react to the light, you go ahead of them…BAM. Stunt driving. Clearly the cops are trying to take the courts out of the picture, and lobbying the government to be able to levy these fees/fines/penalties at the side of the road, without the person having the right to a trial by a judge and or jury of his peers.
Bullshit. Gives the cops too much fucking authority, and takes away our right to due process.
lol the turning left thing is the norm in Boston… thats absurd though (the entire stunt driving system), just another measure of control/limitation of rights
yup
a friend of mine was a scholarship athlete at BYU and he said that was a totally common move in Utah. Pretty funny.
That’s rough. I have never seen someone turn left before the other cars go like that. It wouldn’t be a ticket here if you did it unless you did it in a reckless - hang your tail out kind of way.
30mph or more over the speed limit gets your car impounded FOR GOOD. As does street racing. We have it pretty easy in Illinois compared to other states - for example, a 29mph over the limit ticket is only $90. If you are over 24 you can get court supervision through the mail. Pay $70 for your court class, wait 6 months, and it’s off your record. For people under 24, its the same but you have to actually go to court and pay the $155 court fine
