I’m not trying to pick anything apart but looking at the two side by side i would say alot more thought went into the stocker. The aftermarket kit(hangers both going same direction, rear cross bar nonexsistant and the piping looks to be the same diameter.
This is just personal opinion but I’m kinda picky when it comes to spending money on my cars.
Good point. However if you think about it. The Dia is still the same its just an oval due to being pinched. So the area of flow is going to be the same. Not optimal due to changing in dimensions but still good.
Still yes you can change just that one area. You can see where the Res section was removed and replaced with straight pipes
WTF! That’s an awesome picture comparison. Makes you realise why all the RS4s that go to the dragstrip with basic tunes + Milltek exhaust run stock times (or worse).
Has anyone run better than 13.0 in North America with their RS4 other than the JHM’d cars?
That is one of the best exhaust comparison’s I’ve seen. And yea, the OEM one actually looks better in certain parts. I bet if you put some free-flowing mufflers on the OEM on you could even end up with better performance then the Milltek.
My personal favorite move by Milltek lately was the “Rear Silencer Delete” exhaust set up, for the low low price of $1100+tax+shipping. And for anyone curious, that means it basically has no mufflers (i.e. one of the major expenses in quality exhaust second to the diameter of the exhaust, which they also cheaped out on going with 2.25").
The design of the OEM system seems a lot better to me. The Miltek appears to have a lot of sharp and unnecessary bends. The OEM system also has the muffler inlets close to the center of the car to reduce bends like what JHM did on the S4 system. The inlets on the sebring mufflers are offset. I wonder why Miltek chose an H-pipe
Joe. Well pointed out. This is what happens when you try to run production parts off a machine there is a compromise of quality.
I don’t think milltek put too much thought into it. I think they say a cheap way to tie in each side of the exhaust and they went for it. Maybe Im not giving Milltek enough credit but I just don’t see why they would charge tons of money for the same dia exhaust and do little to no changes
JHM exhaust all the way. I cant believe people buy that miltek setup now seeing the pics. almost like the stock setup. And i would bet the stock flows just as good with the h pipe welded in there.
The only difference between the stock and miltek is that the OEM bends are not a true mandrle bend so the pipe is actually smaller in the bends. So both flow about the same but put an X on the stock and it will out flow the miltek!
This thread really is an eye opener. 2.75 vs. 2.5 doesn’t sound like a big deal because it’s just a 1/4", but it’s a massive difference when you really look at it.
The S4 world is even funnier…the 2.25" guys who are always saying it’s no big deal to go 2.5" are nuts. 2.25 is a 3.97" cross section…and going 2.5" (4.90 sq in) is a 23% increase.
Of course if you don’t know what the engine can/will/must flow to make good power, you don’t know what exhaust diameter to start with. You just try something that the other guys tried and is selling. I find that incredible. There’s some really basic homework you need to do to determine the optimal exhaust diameter for a 7000 or 8250 rpm revving 4.2 litre V8 engine…and it appears that Milltek, APR and Stratmosphere just flat didn’t bother to do it. Is that possible?
