As far as temps in the ambient temp range you listed…it depends. Around town taking it easy, 208 - 219. Stop and go with a few quick bursts, 214 - 228. Highway cruising, 208 - 212 all day.
On a summers day with ambient temps in the 90’s I’d add 10 degrees to all.
God they run hot. a real cheap mod on my old vw’s and even noticed 6.2 amg guys doing is a low temp thermostat that opens at a much lower temperature in order to cool these fuckers much more effectively. maybe something we should run through with JHM or does count have anything to add if that could benefit us in anyway possible?
coolant thermostat right? almost every domestic pushrod guy runs one and it definitely helps.
iirc when it was brought up in the past the count was concerned over the ecu freaking out. Audi likes the motors hot, you get more complete combustion/better emissions/better motor efficiency with it running hotter
normal driving at the end of a short trip 85ish celsius (185 f)
normal driving after a while 87-90 celsius (188-195 f)
spirited driving around 100 celsius (212 f)
being ignorant in the city (ripping it to 8000 in each gear and cruising in 1st or second between lights to hear the car sound reverborate off the office buildings on a warm day 110-115 celsius (230-240f)
Exactly what NY07RS4 said. I ran these exact temps all year in Oregon except on the rare occasion it woudl get above 80. On track is a different story, I would see on a 70-80 degree day temps of 256 pretty regularly. on a cooler day I would still be in the 248-252 range. Last year I added the Setrab oil cooler and deleted the Aux radiator. Now I see the following temps:
Around town taking it easy: 207-212
Stop and go with a few quick bursts: 210-217
Highway cruising: 198-206
Track day at 45-75 degrees (haven’t had a warmer one yet): 245 peak
So in the end I am running 5-10 degrees cooler on average with the new oil cooler and the aux radiator delete. But more importantly is my oil temp recovery time. It used to be after a track session I would hit 256 or so, and do a cool down lap and pull into parking area and still be at 238 or so. Thats an 18 degree drop in about 5-6mins of cool down in 3rd gear. After the oil cooler, I would drop from 245 down to 217 on pull in to park. thats a 28 degree drop in the same amount of time under similar conditions. And that is repeatable every session. I think the quicker cool down combined with the lower overall temps will contribute to the longevity of the engine oil and hopefully the components in the engine. its a really good mod. Hollywood has the same mod and has seen similar results.
