rs4 p300/p305/p306/p307/p308

Hey guys, So I have a multiple misfire on bank 2, here goes the story hopefully short. I performed a de carbon myself, I was extremely careful on the whole process, I removed all components and replace exactly, plus I made sure that all valves where closed while cleaning (ie; manual tools with seafoam and shop vac). at that time I put new injectors since I had it all apart. I put that car all back together and started with no issues, drove it for 200kms then started showing multiple misfires on bank 2 only, so i cleared the codes and checked over everything, no issues, then same codes after another 200kms ish, I removed the intake and swapped bank 1 with bank 2 injectors to rule that out, after all together again, had same codes about 200kms again. dealer checked cats and ox sensors, all good. they are saying it MIGHT be the fuel regulator located under the intake for bank 2 or injectors. I cant see it being injectors since I swapped them. The car does have some hesitation before the codes start, also dealer said I have fuel pressure drops here and there. Any thoughts?? my codes are p300/305/306/307/308

first thing I would try is swapping a couple coil packs around. if the misfire changes cyls then u know that pack is bad. did u put new plugs in after the clean? I know I had a misfire that was a bad plug just before I got carbon cleaned.

welcome to AR. you’ve come to the right place for help.

I should have added, I put new plugs and packs, and did the swap thing, no difference to bank 2, thanks for the reply although.

Can you log the car? Maybe it’s a HPFP a issue on that bank. Logging pressure will narrows that down quickly.

I wish I could log it, Im not that good, or my code reader is not that good,

whats a HPFP

you may have to get a vagcom cable, where are u located maybe someone here can help you out with that.

HPFP=high pressure fuel pump.

Where are you?

In Calgary Canada, right now the dealer has the car

If Bango is local to you then get him to help you with logging and finding out some more information.

If I remember correctly measuring value block 103 has the low side fuel pressure and 106 has the high side fuel pressure. That should be good to log while also watching channel 14 to see misfires.

I have to ask the simple questions first just to weed out the easy fixes. Did you replace the intake manifold gaskets when you did the carbon clean? Did you install intake manifold spacers? Did you reinstall the metal flaps in the intake manifold ports?

Try reseating the boot between the mass air flow sensor and the throttle body. I have seen that boot not fully attached to the throttle body cause issues.

Otherwise you have ruled out a bunch of suspect parts like the fuel injectors, spark plugs, ignition coils, catalytic converters, and oxygen sensors. So you are left with the high pressure fuel pumps, intake leak/turbulence, and unlikely camshaft/crankshaft timing being off.

unfortunately bangoman is in Ontario, so am I but im sure theres someone on here in Calgary that can u help u with logging.

anyone wanna chime in here?

I had similar codes pop up on my S4 last year and it ended up being the pre-cat failed on that bank, causing the whole bank to misfire. Probably not the case here, but just throwing it out there.

  1. welcome to AR, Rock
  2. I don’t understand the poll
  3. Ontario and Alberta (where Calgary is) are 2000 miles apart (for the Americans lol…the Brits and Europeans ironically know this)

hey guys, just logged on, So yes Jimmy, your on to something respecting the gaskets, I did torque down the intake slowly on each bolts, and I did use new gaskets but no spacers, I didn’t remove any so I didn’t add any spacers, To speed up to today the dealers comments. they said my fuel pressure valve is shot, I guess my fuel pressure is dropping below the spec’s which is starving banks 2, NOW saying that every time I start misfiring I smell gas like Im dumping in on the ground. I guess I will change out the valve (under the intake ) and see what happens, thanks all and I hope to report a running car soon…

Also, I noticed sikimano mentioned in may to another fellow that had bank 2 problems about washing the engine, all I can say is that i did that after the carbon clean, I wonder if I f**** up with the washing?? based off the dealers comments today I would say no but now its bugging me. and I forgot to thanks the guys for the welcome, thanks. also I hope this doesn’t put me in the bad books with you guys but I have a 911 996 model, I have 90k on it and I have had not one problem with it, i even have the stock brakes still on. I really hope the rs4 can maintain some reliability?? because I really like it.
