I am not sure about that. It is definitely a no go with an early 2004 S4 like mine because the guide has a nipple that goes into the oil supply port. The later 2004 and on S4s may be able to use a RS4/Q7 upper middle guide if it lines up correctly and the oil passage lines up.
The metal guide that JHM includes is the lower left guide that is next to the gear drive unit for the timing chain that goes from the crankshaft to intermediate sporkets. It is angled like this “”.
I thought that you were talking about the guide that goes horizontally right below where the oil filter housing is. The confusion here could be on either end but hopefully that clears things up.
I remember looking at your RS4 engine on the stand but once I realized that my early 2004 S4 had that nipple then I dropped the idea of bothering with FSI guides there.
The upper center/horizontal guide is what I was most interested in. The original plastic guide I removed (079109469AC) has the nipple. The nipple goes into a blind hole - with no oil supply. The replacement plastic guide (079109469AD) does not have the nipple, there is however, another blind hole; not sure of it’s purpose either.
The RS4 metal guide(059109469E) fits. The guide holes are identically sized and positioned. It fits a BHF engine, and I don’t see any reason not to use it.
The other diagonal RS4 metal guide is part # 059109469F.
