If you read the B7 RS4 section on UK’s RS246 website, there are frightening stories about how cars are stolen. Thieves will find keys inside the house (with the owner at home) to take a car from the garage.
Seats, steering wheel and wheels are common targets after a thrashing joy-ride.

to be clear, they’re stealing the RS4 Recaro Buckets, not the RS4 Recaro Comfort seats (we only got the comfort seats here)
Unfortunately replcaement is so expensive that on some cars, the insurers are writing the entire car off.

it’s not just the seats. It’s ordering a load of parts at inflated insane prices, and the seats, and the retarded labour to install them after assembling them.
Also, his car didn’t just lose seats, he also lost his RS4 steering wheel, airbag, shift knob and of course then there’s the damaged window, the ruined leather door cards, the scratched trim and carbon fibre. So all in 19,000 pounds, but about 7,000 was seats and the rest was labour and other damage.
Lots of exaggerating in that article too. i.e. labour is not 135 pounds/hr over there. Half that.
That’s crazy… I do like those recaro seats but buying ‘hot’ seats that was ripped from someone’s ride (that then became totaled) is an uncomfortable proposition. I wonder if it’s trickled down to RS5s as well.
I was back in the UK last week - I was going to look into buying a set in person but thought better of it as I recalled all the RS246 stories. Likelihood would be meeting a shady dude in a shady area… didn’t want them that bad.
