I’m thinking about changing my steering wheel out for a smaller diameter flat bottom wheel. Here is where I’m at. I like the European wheel for the RS4, but I like my controls as they are. I’m being picky with the rest of the options since I’ll probably be spending close to 2k for what I’m after . I want to retain the controls. I want red stitching, air leather and alcantera. I found a few but they all have shift paddles. I’m sure they are easy enough to remove but I’m then left with holes on the back. I have narrowed it down to this, but is there any company who can customize this and put air leather in place of the smooth? I feel that’s all this is missing. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09/06/fe1ae36acec336f61e962f465b312bd8.jpg
I found a custom configuration at europrice. I’m considering this wheel in carbon fiber with either alcantera or suede sides with red stitching. I think I answered my own question, but advice is still welcomed and appreciated.
Oem fbsw - unfortunately you lose phone and radio controls so that’s a non starter
Oem ttrs/rs6 - fat small diam wheel and all controls preserved
Oem r8 5.2 (not sure which models but only some are the great wheel). This is basically the oem rs4 fbsw we like but with radio controls. I’m pretty sure it’s father and nicer than the ttrs and rs6 wheel but not 100%
These sell on the forums for 500-700. Then you need airbag and connection harness I believe. All in around 1400 or so. I’ve seen guys get the oem rs4 wheel with airbag for 500.
That wheel pictured doesn’t seem to have the nice fatness or contours of the R8 wheel
Also the B8 wheels (a popular option now) feel kind of cheap to me. The stitches are sharpish and the leather doesn’t feel as supple. Feel one before you buy one if that’s the direction you go.
This is where it’s at…basically the oem fbsw rs4 wheel which was a gallardo wheel, and then for the R8. V10 wheel shown they added the radio stuff.
I’ve always liked DCSW’s work and quality. I’m sure they’d be able to rewrap it for you or customize it anyway you want. Also, I believe Alex@europrice could do custom touches to whatever steering wheel you order. Nexon Motors seem to be in the same custom steering wheel realm, I’m just personally not a fan of their style.
I love the looks of that. If it weren’t for the function that would be lost I’d be all over that one. I’m waiting on a response from alex on a carbon / alcantera wheel with red stitching. Someone school me on the difference between suede and alcantera? I know alcantera is synthetic.
Nick Roshon is selling a custom wheel made in the classifieds section on Audizine. Its pretty nice. I got mine from an ebay seller from Poland. You said you wanted smaller though, mine is the same size as OEM but im sure he could probably make you a TTRS one if you wanted.
If your interested i can dig for the info if you want it.
