Not only that look at how much more hp per liter you can squeeze out of the s65v8 compared to the audi 4.2L there are m3s trapping in the 120s with bolt ons… I dont see any rs4’s doing that!
I think its more a function of weight and less drivetrain loss on the M3s, not getting more power from modest mods. Trapping 120s with boltons? On pump gas? Which cars are these? I think the fastest M3 without forced induction I’ve seen trapped 119 with slicks, race gas and on a DCT.
there has been exactly ZERO m3’s trapping 120 with just bolt ons. if you count a supercharger as a bolt on then look at the market for bmw’s and look at the market for audis. apples to oranges. bmw sells just as many m3’s as audi sells a4’s per year let alone s4’s.
^^^if you count a supercharger as a bolt on, then count the RS4 as having trapped 124. Street tires, 3/4 tank of pump gas, no race, no meth, no slicks, no pulled seats, no bullshit.
Oh…and it was announced publicly in this thread lol.
12.17 @ 115 full weight? great…but woulda coulda shoulda don’t mean shit! It was also on drag radials, which is about as pointless as puilling your backseat. Put 4 drag radials on an Audi and watch it hook the fuck up.
dan@jhm ran 12.2 in his RS4 with a shitty 91 tune. Give him the race tune and he’s threatening the 11s…
george ran 12.2 @ 112.4 in his rs4 on pump gas, full weight, heavy ass wheels and decent, but not great DA. Give him even stock wheels, better DA and he’s even quicker.
Both RS4s ran full weight, street trim, street tires.
I love the E92 M3, but I don’t get the way people don’t see what the RS4 is doing.
It’s my car that Mrc ran at santa pod at the weekend! I think it will run quicker so I plan to drive it once i’m back in the uk to see what it does. as for mods the car has loads,I seen someone suggest lw wheels etc… why? I never built it to be a drag car I just built it to shock a few ‘supercars’ so stock wheels and full interior etc is the way for me, unless someone pays me to strip the car and try run silly low times!. Just like to point out I only ever ran at crail because santa pod is like a 10 hour round trip for me so it’s never really been an option. Crail was perfect because I could compare two direct kits (m90 and m112) and imo this tts kit beats both hands down it’s a lot more driveable day to day. Once i’m back in the uk i’ll post my full mod list but as an idea i’ve got ceramic brakes milltek decat and cat back Loba motorsports 650 plus clutch etc. Hope you all like my car I know I do as soon as i’ve had a chance to run i’ll share the results!
Going from light weight wheels to a full strip is a pretty drastic change. I think people mention light weight wheels as some can look great and don’t affect the day to day driveability and luxury of the car (unlike a full strip). Your car needs wheels to run, why not go light weight is the thought process. You need back seats to carry people so removing them would have a negative impact. And so forth…
Welcome and congrats on having one very quick 4 door sedan with big wheel arches
We speak of lighweight wheels, but the stock RS4 wheels aren’t exactly boat anchors now and plus he has ceramic brakes I think that makes up for the lightweight wheels.
When you get back to the UK, I would love to see some pics as well
Does “decat” mean “catless” as in no cats? I’m guessing just different terminology for the UK guys, just trying to follow along. Any idea about the diameter of the DP’s and Catback on the car (guessing just the stock milltek RS4 options)? Any thought about going something a bit more custom for the catback/DP, you’re car is pumping a SERIOUS amount of air through the system, and I’m sure some more technical guys would be able to speak to a more ideal sized catback to let the blower run even more efficiently and create more power (as I recall the milltek is 2.5")!
I get what you’re saying about the LW wheels, some look cheap and like low end wheels or don’t belong on the car, but there are some that have killer looks and perform great too. Just like rotors & FW, lighter rotational mass makes a pretty big difference. But all that said, the RS4 wheels are better than the S4 wheels as I recall, and there is something pretty special about keeping a potent sleeper that you’ve built as a true sleeper.
i’m leaving Bangkok today to head back to the uk once i’ve cleared my feet I will head to Santa Pod. My car runs 3’’ No cat downpipes and a milltek system which is being swapped out for an mrc 3’’ custom exhaust but still retaining milltek back boxes as I like How they look. I get why lw wheels would work I think what I was trying to say was they defeat the purpose of why I built the car, You look at it and you think it’s ‘just’ an rs4 the only giveaway is the ceramics and the car sits a little lower as it’s on kwv3’s but apart from that you would have no idea. I specced the ‘black’ option on my tts kit so the oil cooler and charge cooler are blackand relatively hidden. i’m thinking of trying race gas and nitrous on the car before I sell this summer that will be my farewell to the b7 platform
Bigger is not always better when it comes to exhausts and down pipes. The supercharger kits need a reasonable amount of backpressure in the exhaust to keep the cylinder filling to an optimum. I believe Doug tried 3" down pipes ect last week and it dropped quite a bit of torque.
The best example of this I can recall was a supercharger busa we had in last summer. It was making 26psi with an off the shelf exhaust. He than had a custom straight through big ass thing made and brought it back to us for mapping. The boost had dropped to 18psi!!! It was all just getting blown straight out the exhaust.
again, keep the market in mind. look at the different tuners out there for bmw and what they offer. the jhm car only had a tune and exhaust, stock everything else on 91 octane. there is no other tuner out there making anything worth a damn for these cars.
