RS4 Torque Mount (a.k.a. Snub Mount on other Audis) - Any DIY out there?

my car had 80k miles and the mount was 100% missing in action - not a hint of rubber was left in there and it’d deliver a serious clunk upon heavy throttle and/or quicker shifting.
replacing it is no fun but absolutely unchallenging technically; do use a poly mount; i went street density but if it was apart again i’d use race durometer; there was zero increase in NVH after install.
far as it’s function, remember the rear end is trying to lift the entire drivetrain nose first under acceleration; the snub’s got little to nothing to do with the engine’s trying to twist itself out of the motor mounts.

ignore most everything i just said…RS4 no same same as S4, very sorry, me not pay attenshun.

Someone from Audizine:

[quote]Lol so i changed that it felt great the first day, reduced slop. Now it feels like im getting some slop back again could i have already blown the 034 mount or is it time for the motor and trans mount. Also the oem mount looked fine when i pulled in off still intact. Oh well hope this helps others thinking of doing this.

Jeremy Clarkson interview in 2010:

[quote]Steve Crofts: “You once said, all bmw’s are driven by people who are psychologically unfit to drive anything more powerful than an electric razor.”

Jeremy Clarkson: “Yeah, that certainly WAS the case, I would change that to Audi’s now”.

Replaced the engine and torque mounts on mine. The driver’s side engine mount was split in two.

Here’s the torque mount

wow crazy.

How much of a job is it? i.e. if you had to pay someone, what kind of hours are they charging for something like that?

For all three mounts I’d say they’d book maybe 3-4 hours.

You can maybe have someone do it for less if they can manage to do it without having to take the bumper and light off.

In hindsight, the torque mount is probably something I should have tried to tackle myself in the spring once it got warm again to not freeze while working on the car outside.

The engine mounts I don’t regret not trying since I definitely didn’t have enough universal joints and extensions to reach a few of the bolts.

Look at this picture from JHM’s six rib belt conversion for the RS4s. The bottom of the torque mount is still attached to the engine on the upper left side of the picture. The rubber portion of the torque mount is gone.

Nice. Looks like definite light/bumper cover removal
