I have a sneaking suspicion my OEM torque mount is in shambles and want to throw an 034 in there, but haven’t seen a DIY anywhere. I’m guessing it’s a real PITA to get to.
Everyone on AZ who has looked, has found it to be busted. koolade9 has some pics in his build thread. Not a DIY, but helpful to understand how much of a PITA it is to get to. And the hockey puck mod is hilarious.
I am planning to ask the dealer inspect mine on my next visit. No idea what they’ll say.
I get slop on engagement of gears. Started happening a year ago after letting someone drive it.
I was in the passenger seat and they engaged and disengaged each gear like a fucking. Linda deaf mute with no feel. After it was clunky.
Diff mount looks fine. Engine mounts throwing no codes. Not sure what else it could be. Trans mount someone suggested.
FYI NY07RS4 had his checked at 80,000 miles and it was perfect. Only one I’ve heard. The guys at JHM were joking about how they’ve never seen one in tact
I do. They’ll tell you you need to do $3000 worth of work on your car.
Are you seriously asking a dealer to look at something and expect them to respond with, “yup, looks perfectly fine, we don’t recommend any kind of work whatsoever, have a good day!” ??
I was shocked. I still threw the 034 one in there though. Felt zero difference. I can take a pick of my oem one, the thing “looks” perfect. I saw another guy’s after 90K miles and his was in two halves. I don’t know why mine was still in tact, maybe it was replaced before I bought it? At 24K miles? That would be odd.
On a rare occasion I did tell people that their car didn’t need anything. If you maintain your car properly then usually you don’t get surprised with big repairs.
I’d be curious to see the torque mount from someone who’s never had the trans off the car and never changed their motor mounts… I have a feeling the stress of the engine out of it’s natural position is a big factor in killing these things. I think you fit this criteria saki, no?
I think that’s the key…take a look at yours if you feel the hankering. While it doesn’t fit with your symptoms, logic tells me yours is probably fine. If not, then said malicious driver really gave your driveline a beating.
Yes & no, but it’s going to be tough to differentiate between play in the motor mounts, and the torque mount itself. Due to the design, the motor needs to rotate counter-clockwise (standing in front of the car, looking at the engine) for the torque mount to pull away from itself, or separate. Think sloppy shifting, or some very extreme deceleration (i.e. dropping the clutch from 4th@4k to 2nd)…
