RS4 winter wheel fitment - VMR708 18x8.5 ET38 = Fail

Tried to fit my old S4 wheels to my RS4 last night. I was worried about the offset not being sufficient to keep the spokes away from the calipers.

Stock RS4 wheels are 19x9.0 with an offset of ET29.
VMR 708 wheels are 18x8.5 with an offset of ET38.

From an overall offset point of view, this is the equivalent of a 15.35 mm offset difference, or about 2/3 of an inch. So I figured…10mm spacers and it might work? Well, I didn’t even get a chance to test the offset…the barrel of the wheel itself wouldn’t even get around the calipers. So…back to the drawing board.

You can see the corner of the caliper (directly below the u in the watermark)where the wheel was nicking it…

Interesting fact - RS4 OEM wheel (19x9 ET29) with Continental ContiSportContact3 tire in 255 35 19 96Y XL weighed in at 51.4 lbs. That’s really not that bad…that means the wheels only weigh around 25-27 lbs (tire rack says that tire weighs 26…and my scale may not be perfect, so 25-27 is a good guess). I was thinking they’d be closer to 31.

Man 18s looks REALLY small on this car…

Looks like I’m going to have to stick with 19s…so I’m on the lookout. Preferably another set of stockers as I think they just look perfect. Ti package would be great in case you know someone selling. Still need to do a proper photoshoot with this thing. These are all blackberry pics.

Your car is teh seks. Very clean. What do those vmrs weigh in at? I watched the Top Gear with RS4 vs climber. Absolutely epic video.

I heard RS4 stockers are something like 30-31lbs. I’d bet a scale made for fat humans is pretty inaccurate below 80 or so lbs

Saki, I have a brand new still in the box set of vmr v710’s in matte black 19x8.5 et 35 I can give you a great price on. Let me know

Thanks. I weighed them the other day. 25.6 lbs each for the VMR 708 18x8.5 ET38 with 57.1 (I think) bore diameter for B5/6/7.

Yeah, I heard that too…but we heard wrong. I’ve since been corrected by my scale, and a friend who weighed his own when they were off the wheel. My scale is actually really good. I weighed our dog when she was a puppy around 20lbs, and then weighed her at the vet and it was bang on the vet’s $3,000 scale.

PM me your thoughts. Tough to ship them up here etc…but we’ll see.

Not all 18’s fit the RS4, I know the TDR’s do and they are fairly light and inexpensive.

Cheers,
Jim

The TDRs are a great track wheel…strong, 18", wide, light (under 20) and great for clearing brakes. They’re not exactly the right look for the RS4 though.

I almost bought a set from a guy on audiworld or somewhere, but he has sent them in storage across country. Too bad because they had 70% tread Nokian Hakka winters on already. Perfect.

Here’s an Avus Silver with TDR Pro 1.2 in 18x9, ET20

ASA GT1, 19" ET (I forget, will look it up), 3MM spacer needed up front, none in the back. All hardware supplied by Tire Rack.

I wanted wheels for my Winter set up that I wouldn’t care too much about and would still look ok on the car. These wheels in conjunction with the Dunlop Sport 3D’s are great imo. Not terribly expensive, pretty strong wheel and the tires for region are terrific. I’ve been happy so far.

those TDRs are a lightweight wheel I might actually like. You’re right, not quite there for a B7, but maybe the B6

too bad you didn’t get those VOLKS. 16.8 lbs each. Looked great too.

Too bad indeed. As for TDR wheels - who sells them? Just trying to see how much they cost?

They are Tire Rack’s house brand. So Tire Rack.

what is? we’ve talked about 4 wheel brands in this thread (Volk, VMR, ASA, TDR)

Nevermind I got TDR mixed up with Tire Rack’s brand: http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=runWheelSearch&initialPartNumber=MT188535512MG&wheelMake=TRMotorsport&wheelModel=MT1&wheelFinish=Matte+Grey&showRear=no&autoMake=Audi&autoModel=A4+1.8T+Quattro&autoYear=2005&autoModClar=Sport+Package&filterFinish=All&filterSize=18&filterBrand=TRMotorsport&filterSpecial=false&filterNew=All&filterWeight=All&sort=Brand

vmr makes a few sets of wheels in 19x9.5 33et if you wanna check those out… i’ve been looking at some for my RS.

I would throw the snows on your stockers then go big when some nice light weight wheels/tires in the spring. I run my stocks with Dunlop 3Ds in the winter and its perfect !
