RS5 DSG Question?

When in Sport mode with the shift lever or using Dynamic mode my DSG hangs up in 3rd and 4th gears at as high as 4000 rpm despite extremely small throttle angles as well as removing my foot from the throttle entirely in an attempt to get an up shift. Only way to get an up shift is going back to drive or using manual mode to move it up a gear. Is this normal in these modes?
Thanks.

Take it out of Sport mode…

This is not entirely similar, but our Q5 in sport mode does the same thing…I’m pretty sure the car wants you to push it. If you are just DD then stay out of sport mode otherwise you will complain about things like this.

The tranny basically hangs onto a gear longer in sport mode…because it’s sport mode so that seems normal.

Maybe someone can add a more technical explanation.

Thanks, I agree. The car is waiting for you to jump on it. As you know the RS5 doesn’t have the torque of a S4 with a ECU and DSG tune. Still learning the car and love it even more.

happens on my A4 2.0T as well. Just leave it in D. S mode does some funny stuff when you’re driving normally in S mode.

Sport mode will hold the revs up to keep you close to the power band. It also holds the revs high for good maintenance throttle through corners as well (which I think it does automatically when you flog the car through corners as well).

To add to the others it does this on my S4 too. Sports mode raises the min rpm shift range. Normally the car might up shift at 2400 rpm… in sports mode it won’t up shift till 4400 rpm. Even if you go light throttle. PsYkHoTiK explained why it’s built to do that.
