I just installed an AWE catback exhaust on a RS5 and it is not nearly as loud as we thought it would be. They say the mid pipes make it miserable.
Which version of the AWE exhaust did you install? Did it have down pipes as well?
And to clarify due to my lack of edit permissions, full exhaust = cat back as in down pipes and back.
It was a slightly used track edition and he hasn’t ordered the down pipes yet. They say the down pipes cause a lot of drone but at this point that may be an exaggeration because the track edition exhaust is kind of on the quiet side.
contact Danny at fast intentions if you want the guy who made hands down the best exhaust for the past 4.2 s/rs cars. He works with JHM on these and they always seem to nail it.
That is what I recommended to my friend too. At least Danny would make a properly sized 2.75" exhaust.
I love our S5 4.2 system. The RS5 needs one too.
I loved the APR B8 S4 exhaust. Hopefully you guys have something by the time I really get the itch. Stock non sport system needs replacing with a louder/nicer sounding exhaust.
AWE track is weak as hell. That’s how the car should have sounded from the factory. However, if you remove the center muffler section but leave the resonators in the front and rear like I did, it’s a beast. It doesn’t drone terribly, but it is loud as hell outside.
So apparently there’s a AWE Track ‘Extreme’ (lol) exhaust that comes bundled with non resonated downpipes.

Just get in touch with JHM and ask them about Fast Intentions making you something that is 2.75", has an X-pipe, and a resonated section.
They made this for the RS4, which is a very similar platform. I have the old scabby prototype on my car (I say old and scabby in jest…in reality it’s one of the best looking things I’ve ever seen fabricated. The shop that installed it was having a good old time marvelling at it.
They took it to Fast Intentions who put together a process for production, and the production version is fantastic.
