RS5 V6 TDI

Didn’t see a thread on here discussing this: http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/audi/a5/first-drives/audi-rs5-v6-tdi-e-prototype-first-drive-review

[quote]As you might expect with 553lb ft of torque on tap from just 1250rpm, this Audi RS5 diesel is bombastically rapid

[quote]It is also likely to appear in RS form thanks to the fact that the ‘diesel-ness’ of this unit has been almost entirely eliminated, thanks to a combination of e-boosting, its pretty free-revving nature and the artificial sound generation of the exhaust system.

The question that hasn’t yet been answered is why RS customers – who presumably are not too sensitive to petrol prices – would want to buy a diesel-powered car.

I love diesel, I really do. My first Audi was a 2.0TDI. That’s the point of diesel - small displacement engines with turbo chargers so you can get 50mpg yet the car feels a little “sporty” off the line. Or high torque for Touaregs and Q7’s.

But this annoys me like Audi choosing to bring the 3.0 V6 TDI Q5 but not the 2.0TDI Q5 to North America.

Having said that, can’t doubt the idea if the performance lives up to the current RS5. And it’s still a beaut of a car!
