I think you miss understand my intent. I love the headers!! I am saving every spare dime in hopes I will be able to buy a set before I miss my opportunity. This in no way takes away from me wanting those headers. I, for the sake of knowledge, would like to see how well these are matched. Say down the road I want to go try and make a turbo set up, I’ll have a good place to start, or just to be able to advise others. It would be good to know. I am going to order some exhaust manifold gaskets. See how they line up. Worst case scenario I am out 30 bucks.
Really what do you guys think? And if any one has access to a lambo and s6 exhaust manifold or gaskets feel free to chime in. lol
Sorry, dont have any pics of them installed Justin. And to be clear, I am not suggesting at all that he should try and fit the R8/Lambo exhaust manifolds. It is a terrible idea, IMHO.
The LMS manifold there, are not that much different than the regular R8 ones, I dont think. I think they are just catless and dont have a flex pipe. The main power difference is probably coming from them being catless, and maybe a slight redesign to increase flow.
purpel, I’m going to be very blunt here, so dont take it personally. Any further pursuit of trying to make the R8 or Lambo exhaust manifolds work on the S6 is really just a waste of money and time. They wont work and wont fit. And even if they could be made to fit, it would cost a lot of time and money on something that is not ideal.
If you are doing R&D for a turbo application, then that is another story. Turbo exhaust manifolds dont need to have equal length primaries or headers. You would design a very basic manifold that positions the turbo in the very tight space that you have. Those R8/Lambo manifolds whould NEVER work for that.
Look at the 4F RS6 manifold design…
See how basic they are? If you really want something to try out, then import a couple of the 4F RS6 manifolds with turbos from German eBay. Unlike the Lambo 5.0, the RS6 5.0 engine DOES in fact, share the same cylinder bore spacing with the 5.2 engines. So, it should line up (no guarantees). They dont have bolt holes on the exhaust manifold like the S6 ones, but Im sure you can figure something out.
Heres a pair with the turbos and the exhaust manifolds for 2000 EUR
In my opinion, getting those to work on the S6 v10 is doable, but a huge project and big bucks $$$. I’d just go custom Vortech SC kit myself if I wanted FI, but if you want to be the groundbreaker with a turbo S6, there’s your ticket.
And just checking, you have designed custom turbo kits for your cars before, right? I can see this being a massive money pit with disastrous results for someone how isnt an absolute expert in custom turbo kits.
Good Luck!
Thanks V8. Hey, I just wanted to say this is merely conjecture there is nothing definitive no development going on rather than Ideas. For any and all reading this, I am wrong and this is not the right way to build a FI system, and in no way should anyone mistake this for a write up for a turbo build all 100% conjecture and hearsay. I simply wanted to discuss the similarities between these manifolds. if you are correct and there is a variation of 2mm per cylinder theoretically putting the whole manifold off by one cm by the end that’s fine no worries, but I know that the exhaust port locations don’t necessarily reflect cylinder spacing. http://www.extreme-tuning.bg/en/project/VW-Touareg-V10-TDi---izpuskatelni-kolektori
So most likely you are correct I just want proof. No offence but I am a show me kind of guy. I will talk theorize until the cows come home but unless it is proven its all just hot air. So ok lets play this out risk vs reward risk 27 dollars for lambo gaskets $14 for S6 gaskets. I can use the S6 gaskets for sure. The lambo gaskets I can probably send back. Reward say some how they do fit a pair for $500-$800 hell that’s friggin cheap. Look The only reason I am so interested is because of how short they are. If I wanted to fit them to a turbine the placement would be almost ideal. look at the link again, see where the turbo is? That’s audi’s design which I could use as a blue print. and follow trough using the piping from audi’s own engineered systems pre-bent for me. Heck maybe I win the lottery with this and its all but bolt on. So my point is low risk high reward potential. If I am wrong who cares? If it works hey something of great value will have been discovered. Finally i’d like to say I am almost definitely wrong here I just want to prove it.
Good luck with it, and let us know what you find.
The exhaust ports wont be out a full cm. If you line up the center, then the first two on each side will be out 2mm, and the outside ones 4mm. That is my prediction, anyway.
Unfortunately will probably be a couple weeks before I can get back to it. I am going on vacation Saturday and wont be back for a couple weeks. but as soon as I get back I will order everything. Lol I tried to justify using vacation money to pay for the headers but If I did my fiancé would kill me and if I am dead I cant really use them very well.
Just remember… a trip to New Zealand will be here and gone in few weeks, and leave you with nothing more than a massive credit card bill, and fading memories of vast, scenic landscapes that could have been gained by watching the Hobbit trilogy on an oversized HDTV.
v10 S6 headers will provide you with a lifetime of aural and sensory pleasure. And when you die, you can have them buried with you, so you can wrap your arms around them for eternity.

Make the right choice (just say NO to Hobbit land, and YES to modern day, European muscle car madness)
Lol love it!!!
I am actually going on 3 trips with in the next year and getting married!! O.O So yeah Tight budget you think? This trip is just to florida and Disney in July I am going to Hilton head next year for my Honeymoon I am going to New Zealand that trip alone will be is going to be 15k. Lol add all that up there’s my headers and custom JHM vortec kit and half of a S6/R50 TDI Frankin beast. Lol I would love to have twins one sc gas v10 the other turbo Diesel v10 I have my silver car with black interior, make the TDI a black car with white interior. lol or I can get married and have a life and memories outside of cars.
Hey, got my exhaust manifold gaskets for the Lambo and audi. As predicted by V8A6 the ports match in center then deviate by 2mm on the next 2 ports then 4mm at the last 2. If someone wanted to port out the block and manifolds to fit it would be feasible, but very costly where the headers would be a far better solution!
Thanks for confirming
porting out 4mm is a lot of meat
yes it is and all ports would have to match.
Here are some good things that came from this. And purpelt81 thanks for the leg work. All of us knew the talk of Lamborghini like v10 motor talk is all bs. The only thing the audi v10 and Lamborghini v10 have in common is that they are both v10 motors. Now that we have confirmed what we already have known…and that’s that the two motors are very different and parts are not interchangeable. But now we know that. The intake won’t fit because the exhaust won’t fit. The ports are wider apart. We know the camshafts and other supporting hardware won’t fit and from there the list goes on.
What I’m speculating from this is that the Lamborghini motor has thinker walls for strength resulting in the larger spaces between the cylinders. I would have to look it up but I would guess the bore sizes are the same but the stroke is different between the two.
surprisingly in this case I the Opposite is true the the audi exhaust gasket is the larger of the 2 with more space between the cylinders.
So lets recap, the s6 bore spacing matches the lambo 5.2 r8 5.2 and rs6 5.0. I see 0 beit in using the lambo or r8 exhaust anything mid engine cars return angles would put us no where we want to be even the bolt patters are all wrong. The only reason I considered this is how short the headers were, ending at the end of the block perfect place to bolt it to a turbo actually the exact place where the tdi v10 turbo mounts but… Hey at least I am entertaining right? any way that leaves the RS6 its not a good match bolt pattern wise either, but since its got a turbo already bolted to it, well you’d like to forgive it right? Actually that would be a dead end too after building a custom mounting bracket and welding it on perfectly you still have to run all the piping intercooler with 0 leaks then tune the son of a bitch and pray it does not blow sky high. No thanks… So lastly brining us to an entire RS6 engine swap. Obviously costly just importing one of those bastards is going to cost into the thousands. not to mention you don’t even know if the wiring will even plug into the s6 car body oh and did I mention that the RS6 has a special transmission built with heavy duty parts and a completely different gearing ratio. Meaning you would need to import one of those also and cross your fingers the body mounts are the same. Heck you would probably have better luck with one of those new corvette 427’s it would be cheaper too. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2008-Chevrolet-Corvette-C6-Z06-Engine-kit-LS7-motor-w-7-720-miles-7-0L-427-WOW-/400927133163
There is no such thing as an RS6 5.2. The v10 RS6 is a 5.0l
lol thank thats correct I fixed it.
It’s always great to think out loud and to have an open mind. You did cover all the points and as we have seen over the years it’s never been a great idea to swap motors and rarely has it ever worked trying to make motor parts fit.
I think right now there is a lot of excitement for the v10 and all of us staying on the same page and working to a common goal together will help push the platform.
Yeah and the fact that this is the only feasible direction to go helps too if someone comes in asking hey we can definitively say there really is only one way to go with this car and engine.
