S4 4.2 camshaft timing data logs

Hi

Not sure if there is a separate place for this or not, but just wondered if anyone could have a quick look at my brief camshaft log and tell me what you think, as it looks ok to me, but not sure of the exact tolerances etc

thanks in advance!

I just saw your pm. Welcome to the forum your in the right place for help on this. There are lots of technical guys over here.

From what I can see in the logs the car is following the spec with actual very well and the phase is nice and low.

The amount of correction is higher then Im used to seeing but that can be with age. Both sides are following the same amount so from what you have here it looks ok.

Keep in mind that this wont show a broken guide and its on if the guides will break its when.

Hi

Thanks for reply. No worries about the pm, I wasnt sure if it sent or not, and didnt want to pester you.

As for age, its only a 2007 S4 with 80k on the clock, so its not all that old really.

What could cause a higher correction value? I’m not worrying about anything because I have no codes or problems or anything, I’m just curious to keep an eye on things as obviously these logs “CAN” be an indication of things going on in there, so I’ve read.

And yeh, I fully appreciate that the guides WILL break, and as I get a bit of start up rattle, they probably already are cracked, but no other noises or problems, so I’ll just worry about that when the time comes.

Other then the percentage nothing stood out screaming bad news. An 07 with 80k makes sense and you should be good for a while. The rattle on start up says theres already something wrong but the logs look good. lots of guys have rattle for years and drive for years.

cheers for the help

its obviously not guaranteed, but at least I can sleep a bit easier lol
