Aside from that, they seem to have a better transmission, with launch control that gives it 3.x second 0-60 times. Better gas mileage, obviously. Comes standard with air suspension I believe. Other than that, I don’t see the appeal over a C6 personally, not enough difference to justify the huge price difference, or at least that’s the way I feel about it.
One or two people have posted about having (or at least, test-driving) C7’s, but they are definitely few and far between around here, which is kind of odd since there are so many more of them on the road.
I dunno, these days turbocharged V8’s are a dime a dozen, but AWD V10’s are quite a rare breed indeed.
The cars have some nice updates but over all its not really an exciting car… or at least not to me. That and if you ever consider doing small maintantence work on the car for get it the car is a nightmare to work on.
Not many turbocharged V8’s over here either, probably just as rare as the V10, i think there is two of each variant in the country, mine being one of them!
i think the overall running cost of the newer S6 models is lower over here at least. they look a lot sexier too i think lovely front end imho!
The V10 cars are certainly more interesting, but I wouldn’t discredit the C7 S6 in any way.
Looks - great (quite and understated, but that’s the point)
Sounds - good … can’t say a V8 doesn’t sound good
Goes - like fuck. It’s quite under-rated in Audi literature . For a 4300 lb car to accelerate to 60 mph under 4 seconds and to the 1/4 mile in a top end restricted time of mid 12s @ 112-113 mph is excellent. Unlock that top end with a tune and we’re talking about crushing C6 RS6 performance.
They’re excellent. They’re just expensive unfortunately but that will change soon enough. In a couple years I can see lots of C6 owners moving to the C7. They’re excellent cars.
I totally agree on the maintenance aspect. At 35K miles and then every 40K miles these cars require the spark plugs, engine air filter, and transmission fluid/filter to be changed. That is a lot of work and a bunch of expensive maintenance parts to be changed kind of often.
I test drove a 2013 before grabbing the C6. Nice car. Very nice in fact. It did nothing wrong. The symphony of the V10 in the C6 at full song just pulled me in. The C7 I was looking at had a little 50k miles on it and they wanted 43k for it.
Hell, to be completely candid with you, I got the C6, which is a 2010 with 78k miles on the clock, for 27k cash out the door. With how much I am spending on this JHM overhaul and mods, plus some other small stuff for it, I am just under what that C7 I looked at would’ve cost me. There have been small moments of regret wondering if I just should’ve picked up the C7 instead. Now I’m sure once I get the C6 back and hear that V10 sing, especially now with the mods it has, I will smile like a giddy school boy (until something else breaks), but again, there are moments when I wonder if the money would’ve been better spent on that C7.
Another factor, which can be a plus or minus, I view it as a plus, is the rarity of the C6 S6. I never see these things, and I see everything here in Southern California. The C7 S6 I see quite a few of. The little I got to drive the C6 when I got it, it got quite a few double takes and thumbs up when it was realized what the car is as it drove by or sat next to someone at a light. I’ve had some nice stuff that I would expect to get some looks, but you’d swear the C6 was an exotic the way some of these guys looked.
+1, that is so true. It’s really nuts how much attention this car gets once people realize what it is. Unfortunately usually from young dudes, lol hence the name of my car in my signature. Sometimes I get dirty looks from drivers of newer model audi’s, I’m not sure why. A7 and S5 drivers, specifically, nearly always frown at my when I blow by them. Everyone else thinks it’s really cool and gives a thumbs up. Even MB and BMW drivers do a double-take. Told a story here a while back about an M5 I raced on the highway, when we were done he had a huge grin on his face and gave me a thumbs-up out the window. Good times. You just don’t get that with a C7 S6 around here - turbo V8’s may be rare in Ireland, but I can’t drive 2 miles to the grocery store around here without passing 3 of them. Almost never see any V10’s of any make or model.
Ok ok i get your points! 2012 one here is 40k euros, with 49k miles on it, its literally the only one for sale in the country(small small country though!) I gonna go see it in the flesh and go for a test drive just to compare. I could sell my 07 s6 for 20k euros so 5 years newer with 20k less miles on it and more tuning potential, is it worth it is the main question. i kept my subaru for 8 years and loved it, i just havent got that yet with the s6
I do get the same thing over here, i get the rage drivers with their new age 2016 a6 ultra edition 2.0 tdi and they cant comprehend how a old ass 2007 a6 just whooped their ass! with people asking is that really a v10? how big is the engine, can you start it up and give it a few revs etc! I left it into one Audi specialist earlier in the year, and when i came back i was told they loved the sound with the Milltek so much one guy recorded a sound clip and saved it as his ringtone on his iphone!
Ill go rock up in my v10 and ask for a test drive and report back 8)
