S6 Carbon cleaning attempt (need some pointers)

Hi - just about to start this on my newly acquired 2008 S6 and have a quick question. The metal plates that divide the valve intakes (across the head where the valves are) - I read somewhere in one of the posts that these should be left out when re-assembling the car - is that right?

Thanks -

Robert dont be afraid to start your own thread. This way you can catalog your car and it helps as a log for your car and a good refrence for others in the future.

Yes you want to remove the port spacers. They actually act like a carbon magnet and once they are slightly carboned up the carbon build up just speeds up faster because its a great place to collect at.

The spacers are for start up and the intake closes the ports slightly on start up to feed a smaller area. Most people remove them and report better cold starts. Its a very common removal when doing carbon clean

As some others have noted. If your doing the carbon clean look into the JHM intake spacers. They not only drasticly drop the extreem heat going into the intakemanifold but they help keep the over all under hood temps down while also helping keep carbon at bay longer then without the spacers. its like a win win win

Thanks - I already bought a set of the spacers as well as some gold insulation I intended to wrap the intake with during the process. Will start another thread when I get going - really appreciate the info and follow up.

Awesome we are all here and happy to help if you need it. From the sound of it you have it well under control.

oh and here is a link to a good walk through on getting the intake off
