Saying hello (Pics Inside)

Show vs Go, one side isn’t right, but it tears at most of us. I prefer the Go (slightly), but his car looks killer and I got to see it in person at SOWO last year.

Honestly, I think a W6 would be perfect in the Audi and with that box. If I didn’t already have a W7 I would have gone to the W6, especially with that box. In honesty, the W6 is a better acoustical sub, but I got a killer deal on the W7 and my amp at the time wouldn’t run a W6 but it would run the W7 (check that out before, they’re pretty picky, I learned the hard way and luckily was able to swap out). The airspace also fits the W6 better than the W7 with that box. Inverting it like I did was a dual benefit, added interior airspace as the driver is now removed, and also I liked the look & wanted to try something different. I often go too subtle for the amount of work/time/money/effort put into it, so I decided I’d go a little more all out on that one.

Yea after seeing Tom’s trunk, I’ve wanted to do it, I just haven’t built up the motivation yet. Maybe a project next winter depending on how things go. It does look killer though, but I do also use my trunk a ton, so I’d hate for it to get beat up or anything.

I can chime in on this one. I based a lot of my audio install off of maddog’s build, main difference being I used a 10w6.

I think it’s a pretty solid sub for our cars. Awesome sound quality, and more than enough bass output (IMO). Only thing left to do for me is use a side mount box as I just have a sealed square box tucked back by the rear seat

If your set on doing it i say don’t buy high end suede, and any time you put anything in the trunk just bag it up… you should be fine! the trunk would look amazing… but if you don’t go that route, spray that sucker black!!

ill take some pictures… let me go out to the parking lot now to take a quick shot…

^I’m a golfer, so frequently 1 if not 2 golf bags and shoes etc are in the trunk, or package deliveries. That in addition to just day to day activities etc; I don’t “live” in the car, but it get’s well used shall we say haha.

I’m a golfer too and I always have random junk in there… I tend to get a bit of sand in there from the summer time from the beach and the winter time… This keeps cleaning pretty easy…

Here are some quick shots…

As you can see the random shit… And it’s dirty from snow boots and ice melt… Quick vacuum and a damp wipe I’m golden… worst case scenario a quick spray and your done. looks awesome when its darker out the leds make everything pop…

ohh i also dyed the back of the seats too…

im glad the w6 is working out… did you disconnect the 8 inch in the deck? also what are you powering the w6 with… i have the jl 500/1

Yea I pulled the 8in and the plastic bracket for it right out, then I stuffed the upper deck with pillows lol. Cut back on a lot of bass rattles.

I used to have a 500/1 on it, then I sold it and used a diamondback 1200.1 I had laying around. 500/1 was perfect for it, but some guy offered me more money for it than I payed for the amp and sub together :stuck_out_tongue:

If the pillows work then why not! and that’s a score!! on the amp sale!! i picked my 500/1 on amazon used for cheap money…

im thinking of pulling the 8 in the deck and fitting a 6x9 back there… not sure what i want to do yet…

Haha for sure :stuck_out_tongue:

6x9 for what?? Usually 6x9 speakers are pretty crappy…

sorry man i don’t know why i said 6x9… i meant to say 6.5’s…The plan is jl audio evo c5 Component’s and they only offer 6.5’s, thought about adding 1 more set to the rear deck… just a random thought in my mind so far…

LOL that makes more sense. Your call man. I am personally just running components up front with nothing but the sub in the back. (removed the stock rear door speakers too).

I always ask people in the backseat if they like the rear speakers and they say yea they are really clear, hahahahaha. This is why I will never get rear speakers lmao. I’d save the money on those and put it towards sound deadening

x2. Rear speakers are just for fill, I’d rather dump that money into better sounding front speakers than caring about my rear passengers hearing the same thing I have and distorting my sound at the same time.

If u do go wit 6x9s walmart has a dope deal bro

slow day in the office

Coming from my c350 the multi-media package in there was perfect! just wish it had a little more bass… I’m trying to achieve the same quality in the S, so the fill to me is important… I’ve been a JL Audio fan for a long long time so i’ll stick with them, but i do agree with getting better components for the fronts but sticking with the JL Brand it gets pretty pricey.

On another note… you guys ever think of swapping the front center speaker… i did some research on it a few months ago and the size of the speaker that fits in there makes it pretty hard to a replacement… any thoughts or should i just say fuck that center speaker!

^major pain, and then there are all sorts of other issues (are you running independent amp? If so how do you get signal for said speaker. If you’re using stock amp, then why bother. If you’re aftermarket head unit, it’s not going to send out a 5ch signal. But most importantly, why is it even there? The answer, to make up for lack of quality elsewhere and to make things blend better, you put better stuff in you don’t need it as much).

I really think you should consider the front only approach. Do you have kids in the back seat or something playing video games / movies? If not then I really don’t think rear speakers are worthwhile and in fact damage the quality of sound up front.

It sounds weird at first, but listen to your stereo with front only on for a week or so, and then go back. See if you feel it’s more “ambiance fill” sound with the rear speakers, or just more cluttered sound going on. It’s weird at first b/c it’s not what you’re used to and your brain says this is wrong and sounds awful, but then it’ll start to make sense most of the time.

I’m a big 2ch hi-fi guy though, so that’s where some of my views come from vs the whole 5.1/7.1 surround systems etc. My mentality, screw everyone else, I’d rather have it setup perfect for me as they probably don’t care enough to notice anyhow!

Yeah the proper way to d a SQ setup in a car is front speakers only. The rear speakers just cause weird reverb and echo.

I’m slowly piecing mine together: Pioneer F90 h/u, Sundown Audio 100.4, Image Dynamics CTX65cs front stage, Image Dynamics ID12v3 substage, and Second Skin deadening.

The deadening is the most important part. A $100 speaker with good deadening in the doors sound better than a $500 speaker with NO deadening.

Ill try it out for a few days to hear the difference and see how i like it… i don’t think it will sound weird at all since my fleet of vans only have front door speakers and it sounds decent for what it is… thanks for the suggestion…

the deadening is the key element… all that’s left for me to do is the doors. The trunk, rear deck, and under the seat is done… i also had a lot of scrap left so i had enough to complete most of the trim pieces around the seat belt and trunk lid…

Great points all around. I’m a JL fan too, but it’s hard to justify their prices sometimes. A great company that makes a very high end speaker at a competitive price is Hertz. I am running the hertz hsk 165s up front, no crossover, active on a 4 channel amp (ppi 580.4). They get ridiculously loud and clear. I very rarely turn my system past 50% volume.

Sound deadening in the doors is a MUST, when you have a good speaker that is amped they rattle pretty easily. I just did some basic deadening, placing it strategically as I just had some leftover sitting around.

I don’t know if they have a digital designs dealer in your area, but the installer who helped me with my system let me listen to his 2 cars. He has a full digital design system in each one, only difference being 1 had a 4000watt substage with more sound deadening and the other had a 2000watt substage. Their components aren’t very expensive (under 200 new i think) and sound freaking awesome.

Yeah I love Hertz but the price is a little high for me. Lowest I can fnd them around here is $400 for a pair. I got my Image Dnamics for $165 and they are highly regarded as a very good value speaker and they sound like some of the high end $500+ stuf when installed properly and runing active. I’m leaving mine passive for now until I get the craving for more and buy a separate amp for my sub. The Sundown is a very good amp for active because of all the crossover adjustments.
