Scotty@AdvancedAutomotion Review

I had my transmission rebuilt by Scotty back in January of 2012. In October of 2015 I took the car to the strip for the first time ever. In all, I probably launched the car, always using launch control, at most a dozen times. This time I got a rebuilt transmission from JHM. Upon tearing my transmission down they found multiple things wrong and ended up needing to replace the main shaft which also tore up first gear. I for one wouldn’t trust Scotty to even touch my transmission again. When I mentioned my issues to him, he told me to send it back to him so he could diagnose and fix the issue. Yeah so he can charge me even more money to do another terrible job.

I’ve been driving Audis with manual transmissions for 15 years and this is the first time I’ve had an issue. When I had my stage 4 clutch sac adjust all the way, I had a friend of a friend take the car to fix the clutch. He ended up driving the car a bunch by jamming it into gear resulting in the gears getting destroyed and having to get rebuilt the first time. This second time was from me driving it, but I’ve never heard of an issue with the main shaft being messed up. Installer error? You decide. From now on I’ll leave it to a competent shop to fix.

Thanks for sharing. Sorry you had to find out this way but at least the info is out there now

So what exactly did JHM find that would point to a workmanship problem? How did it fail this time? Transmission problems are damn-near always tied to driving style (granny shifting, not double-clutching like you should). Scotty has been a very knowledgeable VAG resource for years. It’d be justified to provide a little more detail before putting his shop on blast.

I would never call scotty knowledgable. I would call the guy full of shit and thats what most others have called him. Seems even people who dont agree on much agree this guy is full of shit.

He tries to pop in threads to drum up business with bull shit and lies. He has tried to look like he knows what he talking about only to seemingly be caught being full of shit. There are a ton of classics.

That and it seems one of the constant issues is how this guy seems to sell used parts as new. there is a point when you cant keep dismissing how many times the same thing keeps getting said again and again. And thats over and over how many people have said they paid for new parts and new trans builds only to get used parts and transmissions that fail.

Oh, very interesting…this I didn’t know. He was invaluable years ago when I was first looking to put an LSD in the RS.

So all that said, what exactly happened to cause this transmission to fail? Right now it reads: trans was rebuilt > yada yada yada > worst shop ever.

Oh yeah just search. Its kinda painful. He has been caught several times in TONS of lies. The constant complaint you will see that is seriously constant other then him getting caught in lies is that he sells people new parts only for people to find out there used.

I dont know any info on mdubs car but it wouldnt be abnormal to hear he sent in a transmission with new parts and got back a transmission with used parts from scotty.

What your talking about is the scotty MO jump in a thread and try to put out information its not nessessarly good information or even factual information. Its just him trying to put out informaton to look knowledgable. From just about every first hand experience I have seen its bad or wrong information. Its just him trying to post to seem smart to drum up business. I suppose its possible for the guy to know some stuff. I just have never seen it in all the threads I have seen him in.

Mdubs sorry to hear about your issues. Glad to hear its been fixed.

Mind you, I’m no transmission expert. But the main shaft in the transmission was destroyed and caused first gear to also be destroyed. Because of the amount of time and small number of miles put on the car between the builds, I was told it was very weird that this happened. I’ve never seen this happen to anybody but maybe I’m wrong. I’ve seen threads where Scotty said one thing, was then asked to provide pictures for proof, responded saying he will, and then weeks later say oh yeah I was wrong or just never admitted it. I launched the car using launch control, so give or take 3500rpms. The last time I launched the car was just over the tenth time doing it, again every time I used it to make sure I didn’t over rev.

I didnt even think about that. Its not like you could have had many miles on your car. You got a built motor and then stage 2 that has been sometime in the making right there.

Yup, in the 4.5 years since Scotty rebuilt it, the car sat at JHM for 2 years. This also happened 9 months ago so I drove it for about 15 months and I put barely any miles on my car.
