Seeking assistance

Hey guys,

I wanted to look into two things.

First, I’m right around 93K miles and I know I’m getting closer (if I’m not already there) to the point where I won’t be able to have a trans flush performed. I’m curious to see the results from others who have done it and which ATF they used for the flush. Right now, I’ll get the ZF lurch every now and again… it’s gotten better with the JHM ECU tune, but will still occur when not completely stopped and seems laggy when switching gears. Also, do we have any news on the JHM TCU tune being decentralized (AKA not in California or Michigan)? I’m sure that would help a lot.

Second, 30 minutes ago during my drive home I noticed a CEL flash on and off several times on the dash then disappearing (no limp mode, rough idle or any true signs of engine component failure). I can’t think of why that would be other than the SAI delete that was recently done ~1K miles ago. The shop removed the entire pump and all the components then put on the SAI delete and new gaskets. Is that the proper way to go about doing it? I’ll still probably get the car looked at again just to ensure there’s nothing crazy going on. My S6 has all new injectors, spark plugs and carbon clean ~2K miles ago.

I appreciate everyone’s input.

For the transmission. Just drain and fill the current transmission. Use redline transmission fluid. Great product great price. Your going to have a headache on your hands if you try to replace the filter.

As for JHM they said they were looking to be able to do TCU flashes remotely sometime in 2019.

The flashing CEL is a driving misfire. This means you had multiple misfires while driving… most likely… check your ECU for fault codes to get more info.

Is it recommended to replace the filter too or no? Also, how the hell am I getting misfires? Bad coil packs maybe? Ughhhh…

The filter would be a good idea but your not going to be getting to the filter without a good amount of work. You have to move part of the headers and that can be a big disaster. When you consider you can just flush or drain out the old fluid and add in new fluid you should be GTG to be honest. I don’t know that its really worth the trouble to change the filter.

Check the codes in the ECU it should help tell more of whats going on or at least what happened.

My transmission cut out due to a mechatronic unit failure. If yours is lurching, I’d say go ahead and get the drain/refill done and don’t do a flush. A flush may make things worse.

I posted my write up for the ATF drain/refill on another post, if you are interested.

The hardest thing is getting to the bolts on the driver side exhaust, you do not have to remove headers.

Ed if you can show what you had to do to remove the pan so they can see. While you don’t have to remove the headers your going to have to fight with one side or the other to actually to get to the bolts then get the pan out. your going to have to move part of the headers and the issue is generally messing with that causes the flex joints to fail.

IMHO just like SIX6SIX said. Drain and fill is the best way to go.

I edited my PDF on the ATF Fluid change adding a section at then end detailing how I handled the exhaust.

Feel free to peruse and comment.
