Id like to change the alternator belt on our 08 S8. Havn’t found anything on how to get the d3 s8 into service position. Any one have some info? Definitely can’t do it with the front end in tact.

This is for a 08 RS4 so its close to what you have on the S8. I have actually taken off the front end of an S8 before there are a few less fender bolts on the inside but you have to watch because you need to take out the fender nut and then there is a silver sleeve that goes between the bumper and the body you need to remove the nut off that as well.
All this will make sense when you get in there. If not post up and I can try to help more. Ill see if I can grab some pics of the current S8 bumper I have off if you think that would be helpful .
wow that is defintiyl a ton of screws and steps jsut to change a belt!
Dont recall what the s8 looks like on the front, but I dont need to evac the AC and remove the condenser to move the core support forward 6" do I?
Also…can I cheat and put a new belt on from underneath without moving it into service? Doubtful of this though…too tight it seems.
Technically you dont need to move them out of the way but you might find that it is just easier to do so. Also you might get in there and see that the tensioner is shot if so you will need to pull the front core out. but its a good excuse for the JHM auto tensioner and the light weight crank pulley
Pull the front core out-as in discharge AC and completely remove it, or just move to service position?
[quote=“JimmyBones”]1. If you plan on fully removing the core support then you need to have the AC system refrigerant evacuated

If you are just moving the front end into service position then the AC refrigerant does NOT need to be evacuated.
Yes it sucks to remove the front bumper on a A8 or S8 but it is better to get as much room as possible and make your life as easy as possible. I would want to open up the front end one time and be done.
got the new one on last night, approx 30 mins of work. I found best way was to get it over the crank first via the top, feed it down there. having a slim jim type device, or a 2x1 x1/8" piece of steel helps alot as a long thin poker.
Then back under, over the pulleys and bam she was on!
used a contitech elite belt. was muid and rainy last night, when the old belt swqueeled the most, no squeels now
