I was wondering which staging do you guys use at the drag strip. It seems to me shallow is the way to go to hit the best 60 foot times and ET.
Shallow.
shallow stage unless you are bracket racing…
Ok let me ask you this question. May be its a stupid one but how much is too shallow. Right now i stop right when i turn on the second row of yellow bulbs. Can i actually stop when i first turn on the first row of yellow bulbs on top, or would that be considered illegal.
Shallow if your going for good ETs, you basically get a rolling start before starting the timer.
technically to be staged you need to trigger the second light, the first light is your pre-stage light… What I do is trigger the 1st light and get all comfortable and/or wait for the other driver to be pre-staged or staged. Then I creep inch by inch to barely trigger the stage light… On the S4, I dump the brake and hammer the gas on the 2nd to last yellow with the delay on the TTRS I dump the clutch and floor the gas on the last yellow…
always shallow when benchmarking your car. All you care about is ET, not RT+ET for benchmarking purposes.
if you are bracket racing, deep staging makes it a little quicker to get to the finish line, but frankly there’s no point. All of the ‘stock’ benchmark data published by the American automotive press assumes SUPER shallow staging, so you 'd be wise to do the same.
You’re doing it right…barely turn on that second set of lights. FUCKING BARELY. That preserves the maximum rollout.
So how can i go the most shallow? by just turning on top row?
nevermind I just saw the end part of your post thanks!
first light comes on when the front of your front tire blocks the FIRST staging beam
second light comes on when the front of your front tire blocks the SECOND staging beam (which is about a foot deeper in)
STOP!
however if you keep going, the first light will actually turn off as the back of your front tire passes and is no longer blocking the first beam. This is what people do when they deep stage. As long as that second light stays on, they’re legally staged. They are bracket racing and want to be as close to the finish line as possible, as anyone would in a me vs you race. However for us, we shallow stage because we’re interested in a like for like comparison to benchmark results.
I see a lot a mustang guys deep staging at Sac.
I see a lot a mustang guys deep staging at Sac.
yeah, they’re probably NHRA members who are there to practice. Test and Tune is not ‘come and test how fast your shit is’. It’s ‘come and practice your drag racing skills, work on your car, adjust your tuning and parts, and get it nailed down for various sportsman competitions’
they’ll often have permanent car numbers etc.
Yeah exactly. Its funny, you see all the Junior Dragsters red-lighting because they are leaning on the light so hard trying to get that perfect RT.
Shallow as you can get.
The seasoned guys will think you’re an idiot or tool if you deep stage and you aren’t bracket racing for real.
A 10 second car is roughly will clock a .05-.08 slower ET when deep staged. Your audi will probably lose .10-.20 when you deep stage vs shallow. Someone consistent at the track like prime or saki should test this.
