Shoot-the-Shit Thread

Anyone see the movie Whiplash? What an awesome flick, especially if you ever played an instrument or have an appreciation for jazz.

Any House of Cards fans here? I fucking love this show. Yes, it’s INcredible, but I think it works because it doesn’t take itself too seriously. The acting is fantastic, and the plot twists give it new momentum every couple of episodes.

I also just love how Netflix dumps the entire season on you in one fell swoop. Innovation always wins with me.

I don’t know - so many good shows out there now (not to mention the impending twin holy grails of Mad Men and Game of Thrones). Perhaps we shld start a TV thread? Depending on everyone’s interest.

Otherwise we can just keep the posts here.

This, along with Birdman, are on my Blu Ray Amazon que. I’m very particular about seeing the Oscar winner movies post hoc.

Watched the first minute of the first episode and the main character killed a dog. That’s the end of that show.

Understandable. I did the same thing when watching American Psycho.

I just had to get past that scene for HoC, though, as I was told that it was a really great show.

what happened in American Psycho?

I’d definitely be down for a TV/Movie thread.

Finished seasons 1 & 2 of HoC a while back. Looking forward to starting 3 in the coming weeks.

Been watching Better Call Saul and The Americans lately. If you anyone hasn’t given The Americans a try, I highly recommend it. I’d say it’s the best show on TV. Some critics say it’s in the realm of Breaking Bad and The Wire; I would agree.

Anyone ever watched “Lilyhammer?” It’s a Netflix show starring Steven Van Zandt about a former mobster in witness protection who gets bored and corrupts the people of Norway. Very entertaining. Season 3 came out a few months ago but I haven’t had a chance to watch.

lots of crazy shit happens in American Psycho. I was referring in particular to when Christian Bale killed the dog.

I don’t even remember him killing a dog. I must have blocked that out. I’ve seen it twice.

^^ it’s when he stabs that homeless guy. i’ve since gone back and watched it again - just skipped over that scene. i hate cruelty to dogs.

is it obvious he kills the dog? I kind of remember it. Don’t remember the dog getting it.

Ya The Americans is solid. I’m only a few episodes in, but I can tell it will be a great series. I have an Amazon Prime membership, so I can stream all of the episodes.

I’ve heard about Better Call Saul - have no idea of the plot line, but I’ll probably get into it at some point. And I still need to check out Breaking Bad!!

Hmm . . . not sure if it’s obviously a killing. But it was enough of an attack for me to turn it off the first time. You can probably find it on youtube.

Americans just gets progressively better each season. This current season has been stellar. Check out the story about its writer. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/03/31/fashion/joseph-weisberg-uses-his-cia-time-in-the-americans.html?_r=0

I’d recommend watching Breaking Bad in its entirety before Better Call Saul. The Saul character is a corrupt lawyer from Breaking Bad and this is the spinoff prequel. Been great so far and it’s already signed for a second season.

Love HOC! Im on the 6th episode of the new season, I do like that they release all the episodes at once, but at the same time I binge watch them in a week or two and then I have to wait 11 months for new episode. So that sucks.

Netflix has really been on point lately with all their shows. HOC, Orange Is The New Black, Lilyhammer (if you can stand reading subtitles), stand-up specials, etc. Seems they haven’t been sparing any expense as far as production goes.

Glad there’s another Lilyhammer fan on here. I figured people must be watching it as there are 3 seasons already.

Just started HOC season 3 this weekend. Love it, very cool how netflix is able to produce their own TV shows, and that so far they have all been really solid.

I really like that show, but I have to be in the right mood to read the subtitles. I can’t just mindlessly watch it like a lot of other stuff haha.

Any guitarists or musicians on AR?

I’ve been playing guitar on and off for the past few years. Finally busted out my treasured Les Paul tonight for some much needed TLC.

I tricked it out a few years ago. Custom hand wound pickups, US made 500k pots and NOS Soviet paper in oil tone capacitors. Bone nut and plek’d frets with locking bridge and tail piece.

I’ve downsized my guitar collection over the years but I don’t think I’ll ever part with this guitar willingly.

If you haven’t read the book, I’d highly recommend it. The movie just touches on the depravity, but the book… wow. A modern classic.

Anyone here read it?
