Side note.

This thread was created to help take up some of the issues brought up yesterday. I got involved and said I would be putting information together. While the air has been cleared, quietly in a off post here is what I said I would do.

I’m not looking to do anything other than to address issues that have been brought up. Here’s what started all of this. For those who haven’t heard of Addict, it is a performance shop in the PNW. Here, the owner was asking questions about JHM’s supercharged RS4 that went 11.12 @ 125 MPH back in May 2013.

I harshly mentioned in the other thread, that we just about never see this from established companies catering to the Audi market. Slinging rumors on forums to attempt to discredit market leaders is, in my opinion, not a very productive way to go about things. I would prefer if a shop has a question about projects, they call directly next time. It can save the need for posts like this and potential embarrassment if they don’t have their facts straight.

One of the 2 points he wanted to touch on was the issue that had popped up that led to the car being at a dealership in Michigan for service. At some point, someone told addict that the engine on the 11.12 car was hurt, necessitating it being shipped to JHM in California.

Funny thing about that is, I went to the dealership at the request of the owner of the car and the service manager at the dealership. There were concerns due to the dealer not being used to working with many of the JHM aftermarket parts. With me at the dealership, I was able to address and quickly explain the problem (fueling related), eliminating any of the issues and concerns the dealer staff had. Once sorted, the owner was able to drive the car home.

There was no blown motor.

There was no issue with cylinder 4.

One individual jumped to conclusions, even attempting to contact dealership staff under the guise of being a buyer of the RS4, and decided to patch together information and share his version of events with Addict that led to these online questions.

Once this blew up on the forum here yesterday, the owner of the car received texts from someone that had been part of the spreading rumors. The owner told me he was disappointed to see this, and disappointed to see the false information being put out there and wanted to set the record straight with this individual,. He sent a text message to the person spreading bad information about his car and copied me on that text. I told him that I wanted to share this here and he agreed.

[quote=Kevin, owner of the RS4]FYI. I am a friend of all, that being said, I think you are grossly mis-informed on my car. JHM has been more than good to me and very honest. The one issue that you may have heard is wrong with the motor has been solved. I will continue to work with JHM to keep enhancing my cars capabilities.

Interestingly, this person made a post here about Kevin yesterday.

I couldn’t agree more.

The other major point that was presented by Addict was that they believed/heard from ‘sources close to the owner’ that the car was running much more than 8 lbs of boost. Since we already know that Addicts source is not exactly reliable, we have to wonder if this was the same source. Here are the simple facts about the JHM car

  1. May 2013 - the car ran 11.12 @ 125 MPH with the JHM stage 2 supercharger kit at 8 PSI of boost .

  2. At that time, the owner then asked JHM for a setup that could run more boost. JHM advised him that their stage 2 kit will run only 8 lbs of boost and to go further, they would need to upgrade fuel pumps. They also advised that they were working on their built motor program. At that time he requested that he wanted to be the first customer car to go stage three. He paid for a built motor in may so, JHM put the wheels in motion for his stage 3 built motor setup, and the owner agreed with JHM that his car would be shipped back to California in late fall for that to happen over the winter.

  3. In August 2013 the owner asked if JHM could fit his car with a smaller pulley and upgraded fueling on the stock motor. It was always his goal to have a 10 second RS4 and this would make that possible. JHM agreed, and the upgrades were made in September 2013. In testing before heading to Milan dragway the car was making 9 to 9.5 psi of boost. Unfortunately the first drag strip pass that night resulted in a blown rear end (half shaft) on the first pass.

  4. in November 2013, the owner arranged for the car to be shipped to California for the winter as planned. Before it went, it ran into the fueling issue outlined above that saw it towed to a local Audi dealership.

So, now that we know what boost the car in question was ACTUALLY running, rather than the guesses and rumors spread by Addict and their “sources”, JHM would like to conduct a little experiment.

To satisfy the curiosity of people like Addict and any others I think, JHM should run the Sprint Blue JHM RS4 in California on more than 8 psi of boost, just to see what the car actually does. The other supercharger kits available run 14-15 psi of boost and all trapped similar speeds to the JHM car on 92-93 octane gasoline. If anyone seems to think JHM already ran more than 8 psi when they trapped 125-126 mph in May, if JHM runs their car with a boost gauge showing say 12 psi during the run, it should still run? Faster right? We will see.

Finally, this post was made by Addict and it needs to be addressed.

The severity of these claims isn’t one that I would take lightly. After reading this, I called Jason@AMD to address this. We spoke and I felt it was productive. It was good to hear his thoughts and how he looked at things, I made sure to address the fact that threats and texts, this was never something I did. I would never blind call him or hide behind anything.
