Simos 8.4 ECU swapping without recoding?

Well since there hasn’t been many new topic lately, i want to bring up our ecus. In particular the B8 ones at the moment, not the B8.5.

It has always been noted that you cannot easily swap an ecu in our cars without having to go to the dealer to have them pair or activate it.

Doing some looking online, there is a shop that claims they can remove the immobilizer from our ecu!

Would this in fact make it possible to swap ecus from say a stock one to a tuned, or yet be able to sell off a tuned ecu before selling it, or to try out different tunes on the same vehicle?

I have been meaning to play with a spare ecu i have, but its for a DSG and my car is a 6 speed, so it wouldnt work out too well.

I have identified the EEPROM inside the ecu that holds the immo data, just need to figure out what bits to zero out to remove the immobilizer from it.

I have also though of reading my friends DSG EEPROM data and loading it on the spare i have and seeing if the car will run without dealer interaction.

I am not sue what other encryption the dealer has put on our ecus, but one would think if you can disable the immobilizer, what else would prevent it from being able to swap from one car to the next.

I have found a lot of information and programs to remove the immobilizer, even ones for the same chip inside, but none for the simos 8.4

Thoughts?

Here is the place that claims they can remove the immo from our ecus.

Do you have a programmer with the right type of socket to read and program the individual bits of the EEPROM? If so, I think that’s well above the level of hacking/modification that most of us get into.

Is there any data stored anywhere else that might be combined with specific bits from the EEPROM to create a checksum that needs to be matched? In my head things are always engineered to be way more complicated than they actually are in real life. Maybe it’s really simple.

It’s possible to unlock the immo on them. Not getting anymore into though because I’d rather stay anonymous

i have a few toys. here is a screen shot of the immo bin dump. whats odd its has 8k0907551A, where the ecu is a B ecu.

I can do it. Heh.

Always a poor choice to put your real name in your screen name when seeking anonymity…

Yeah if you think thats my name

Dan from Avon…

Bay Area…

It also has a 8k0907551D right above it. Maybe it’s a range. Is that the VIN under your pen?

-Skid

Dan from Danville actually.

Anyone need any nudes of his ex?

But Dan Avon from Danville has a White 04 M3, why would he be posting on the Audi forum.

Yea where the pen is, the Vin number is, actually twice in the code.

Haha. I suspected there was some kind of back story.

I’m not buying it.

Maybe Dan is AKA DDILLINGER the notorious Audi tuning thief scam artist, famous for copying big company tunes from customer ECUs, then selling his own ‘ddillinger’ tunes on the side.

“Let me check out your ECU, I will help you out”

Here’s an actual quote…

people having trouble with their cars post…he tells them he knows what to do…that he can help…then asks them if he can scan their car, or better yet, ‘send me the file, I will take a look’

then later we see ads like this…
Has the APR EMCS board installed, currently has 91 octane file but can have it programmed for 93 or 100 if you want. Single program, 8N0906018C, FWD manual.

Great shape, 205 shipped, or 150 and your stock ecu.

I like how he’s selling APR ECU files…even offering multiple files. This isn’t someone who has an APR tuned ECU they’re selling because it came on a car he bought etc…this is someone who is selling a catalogue of big company tunes out of his basement, illegally.

This Volvo thread was pretty funny…offered to ‘help’. Then disappeared when he got the files.

I have a DAMOS for M4.4 and have found many pertinent maps, but can’t find anything related to the injection constant or linerization of hot film voltage (MAF scaling). Anyone have any documents they’d like to share? ;D
:
Email it to me. I’ll do it.
Awesome, email sent. Thanks!
a few days later…
Hey ddillenger did you get those files alright?
Would be funny if these two were the same guy.

LOL!!!

So, Is it possible that I made a username with name that isnt mine? Although I dont really understand why it matters who I am. I do know that its possible to immo defeat simos8.x. Thats it. Snipers

So . . .

Are you ddillenger?

Sure as hell didn’t deny it like pretty much anyone else would have.

I don’t think anyone would have cared who you are if you hadn’t made the comment that you wanted to stay anonymous while claiming knowledge relevant to the topic yet refusing to share it. Add something constructive to the conversation. It’s more fun for all when knowledge is shared.
