It’ll be 5 years in September that I’ve had this car and the issue of the radio saying “linking” about 60% of the time and I can’t stand it anymore. It’ll work when it wants.
I tried a new receiver and that didn’t seem to help. What else can it be? Antenna(shark fin?) or is that for the navigation gps only? Or the antenna booster(am and fm only?)
Wish I could help you. I listened to Sirius for 1 month, and got rid of it. Ended up selling the module on ebay. (getting paid for weight reduction FTW)
Nice haha. Does anyone know if the shark fin is the antenna for the Sirius? Or antenna booster? Etc
maybe get rid of it? I had it on my B7 S4 and the sound quality on the music channels is dogshit. The only channel with good sound quality was Howard Stern.
When it works I enjoy it. I hate the FM stations I have here. Just a 15 min loop of music. Pretty shitty.
So basically the same thing as satellite. Put a couple hundred of your favorite songs on an SD card and say fuck the radio.
I listen to bpm to 90’s, 80’s, hip hop, pop. Traffic. etc. Too much
Sound quality is atrocious. That’s why I got rid of it.
Try listening to the same song back-to-back on satellite vs. SD card.
You’ll be amazed that you were PAYING for bad quality sound. I wouldn’t listen to it for free.
haha this is the shittiest help ever offered on AR
I pay $90 per year. It’s $7.50 a month. It’s nothing. They know I get this issue and gave me a price cut.
that’s a pretty normal price. They’re always willing to deal. They ask for $15 a month, but when you tell them you don’t want it, they whore themselves.
Agree it is terrible sound quality. Disappointing really. I do like me some howard though and my allroad came with free lifetime so thats cool. I still listen to CD’s lol!
Dont have that problem on the older car. Updating channel list often and interrupts what I am listening to for station preview which is annoying.

Weird. I never had an issue with it sounding terrible.
Hence why I like it and want it back lol
yes you do. You’re just not picky about sound quality.
but sirius is shit. Very distorted and compressed and digitized.
There is a difference in sound quality. Unless your super picky about you may not notice. What i did notice is that when i got my Mk2 RNSE that the quality of the sirius went up. Still not FM or SD quality but VERY close to FM quality.
Sorry man i have nothing for you. It sounds like an issue with Sirius linking to your RNSE. Maybe the sirius module or whatever it is thats in the rnse is no good.
On the topic, I bought a satellite receiver for my car because I have a free sirius account.
Turns out I bought one from a B6 S4 and it was a XFM receiver.
Will that work in my RS4? or do I need a sirius receiver from the B7?
(threadjack attempt…let’s see where this goes)
Since no one likes satilite radio. does anyone have a part number: 8e0 035 593 F Sirius receiver out of there rs4?
I love SiriusXM. I’ve had it for about 10 years now. Not every station gets compressed the same. But I do agree that it’s not CD quality.
Anyhoo, the OP asked very early in this thread where the antenna was that the SiriusXM tuner uses. I had assumed it was in the shark fin, but I haven’t dissected mine yet.
Interestingly, on my wife’s 2003 B6 A4 Avant, the shark fin does not seem to have any connection for SiriusXM. It has a cable for the primitive navigation system in the early B6s, but that’s about it.
I was hoping someone could verify that the SiriusXM antenna leads to the shark fin, because then I’m going to take the shark fin and SiriusXM tuner off my B6 S4 that I’m parting out, and install it on the Avant.
