Probably a silly question but I want to make sure I’m on the right path here. I was making a video of my new-to-me FI catback (dat noise :o) and noticed something. Starting around that 58sec I rev the engine and smoke comes out the exhaust.

It’s not really white, looks like it at first but when it goes against the sky background it’s definitely darker. The oil isn’t sludgy or creamy, so my conclusion there is a Head Gasket issue. Assuming it is burning oil: the PCV is new since March so I don’t think it is that. I did a compression test in March as well: (http://audirevolution.net/forum/index.php?topic=727.msg94440#msg94440)
Am I correct in assuming it is one or some combination of:
- scored cylinder(s)
- bad valve seal(s)
Are there any other common culprits? What are my diagnostic steps? The compression test is more for scored cylinders and the leakdown test is more to determine valve seal integrity, right? I can do the compression test again myself but don’t have a leakdown kit.
I’d say I burn about 1qt every 800-1200ish miles. I need to log it better. It’s not insane usage but it is definitely more than when I got the car and I think it is enough there is for sure a problem. As always, any help here is much appreciated.
