Slip Joint Exhaust Paste?

I’ve never installed an exhaust like this, do you guys use paste at the slip joints? Purpose I assume is to ensure no leaks and that the metal doesn’t rust together? I’ve read the AWE comes with a small amount, but the milltek system does not. I’ve read up the install instructions on the RS7 milltek exhaust which provides a good overview, although no mention of the paste.

u probably know this, but FWIW the OE boss (and presumably gt, v6) mustang exhaust is all slip joints, and no paste is used (at least, my car was dry!). the paste will get burnt up anyway the way you drive (track). It will not do you any good with sealing. I would say do not worry about it. It’s not like you will periodically remove the exhaust and re-apply the paste anyway (unlike poly sway bar bushings, for example).

Cool, thanks boro!

Westwest wanted me to relay this message to you as he cannot post yet.

When installing the milltek, install it, then heat cycle it by driving around for 30 min, then re-tighten everything as its cooling or you will have problems. He said he had a bunch of problems till the shop did this.

Hah, + rep to west. Yea, I remember him saying something like this. We’ll see, if I can get to all the slip joints while on ramps than I may consider re-tightening. It isn’t too many pieces, the downpipes, a front center resonator, a mid section resonator, and a muffler/pipe for each side. And the tips (which I could only get the ridiculously large ones :-\ ).
