Slipping JHM Stage VI Clutch?

I’ve been feeling a surging during moderate acceleration recently (roughly 3000-3500 RPM). Although I was concerned, it didn’t feel like pre-detonation or anything serious, so I just figured it was a strange mapping point in the JHM tune or something related to the tune and high altitude.

Today after an especially long and hot drive home from work, I smelled clutch when I pulled the car into the garage. I thought it could be the brakes as well but I wasn’t riding them hard at all. Also, my drive home was all freeway, freeway speeds (65-75 MPH) and no stop and go traffic. This is very preliminary, more testing is required, but I was immediately concerned once I put two and two together.

So, my question is… how should I go about testing this? If in fact it is slipping, I only notice it at part throttle, but I would imagine that the clutch would be more likely to slip at WOT.

Clutch is JHM stage IV with LWFW. I know I’ve heard of issues with these clutch/FW kits but I never believed it.

Oh, and I installed the clutch and everything myself when I had my engine out. Followed every line of the instructions, Loctite, torque specs and order, everything. Also, I followed a conservative break-in (1000 miles), as I was breaking in new engine components at the same time.

All help is appreciated.

A surging doesnt usually represent a slipping clutch. If your clutch was slipping, what you would find is that when you lay on the gas, your rpms rise quickly without a lot of forward momentum, and then (if your clutch is not too bad) the car may catch up a bit when it finally grabs. If anything, it would be a lack of surging.

When my Southbend clutch died, it was worst when in higher gears. Go on the highway and shift into your highest gear. From about 3500 rpm, floor it. See if the rpms jump and the car doesnt move at first. That is what I found when mine failed, anyway.

Exactly surging isnt usually clutch related unless your seeijg your rpms shoot way up. Also part throttle I see it being hard to believe the clutch would slip then…sounds like maby a vac leak or maybe something with the intake flap. That happened to me last yesr.

To test the clutch go 50 mph put the csr into 6th gesr go wot and if the csr slowly accelerates with no qu8ck spike in rpms its not the clutch

I feel the same thing. I don’t know wat it is but it does get a little annoying.

Also is this new stage 6 clutch a beta product? Or is it a stage 4
