the front fender flare obliterates the belt line crease that runs down the side of the A4/S4. It’s funny. You can see below vs. my old S4

When I started looking for my S4, I wanted black. I found a great silver car, and it was maybe my 2nd choice, so I grabbed it.
When I started looking for an RS4, my favourite colours were, in order, Avus Silver, Daytona Grey, Sprint Blue and Mugello Blue. Black always looks good. Hell Imola and Brilliant red too…they all look amazing. I just didn’t want a bright noticeable colour as I get enough tickets on my own merit, rather than attracting too many glances. I also don’t want to attract vandals Sprint tends to do that. Imola doesn’t, but Imola + vandals is a good excuse for committing insurance fraud.
Of course the market is so thin, you kind of get into a ‘I’ll take anything!’ mode as long as the car is in good shape…they’re that rare. There are usually only about 15-20 2008 RS4s for sale in all of the US at any given time. In Canada, it’s 1/10th of that. Yes, 1-2 at a time. Well, I got lucky, and found my favouite colour, and it was a great car, CPO and a local deal so it worked great.
I’ve always liked Avus…it’s basically an RS only colour, so there aren’t many Avus coloured cars around. Nice to be unique, great looking and also under the radar (unlike Imola, Sprint or Yellow).
I did a thorough as heck (for me) job on my RS4 today. Scrubbed the wheels with Sonax and an EZ brush (per 91GL’s recommendation), wheels are sparkling. Then washed the car, then used my Echo leaf blower to blow water out of all the cracks on the car per b6joeS4’s recommendation, dried it it off, claybarred it with a Ricardo clay bar (fuck they’re big), then waxed it.
Car looked incredible…so I took a drive to take some photos.

Looks 100x better with the TI wheels. Silver wheels on Avus silver just looks weird. You have the aluminum trim, silver wheels, and Avus paint that all look out if place against eachother. What’s next? I think a light tint would set it off but I’d wait until summer when it’s hot to do that.
really? I don’t see the ‘conflict’ with Avus vs. the aluminium trim vs. the very similar looking aluminium wheels.
As for tinting the windows, I definitely want to do that. Huper Optik 40% as soon as this local place runs a special, I’m there.
Maybe it flows fine in person. I hated the way the chrome trim looked on my silver A4. Not enough contrast between the two so it looks like a miss-match. That could be still engrained in my head. If I had an Avus, all chrome would be black. I just like the silver/black theme.
What do you think of color matching your side markers? You never did it on the S4
There’s no chrome anywhere on the RS4, and Avus is nothing like Light Silver. Look at my pics comparing my rs4 to my Light Silver S4. Very different.
As for colour matching its a nightmare on the rs4. I’d like to, as my avatar would indicate.

Going to enjoy the car stock/carbony for a while first, Blue. Then I’ll look into maybe a tune, intake spacers and piggies. Stock exhaust is pretty decent.
My RS4 stock ran 12.94 @ 107 and that’s basically what my S4’s fastest ever time was (12.99 @ 107) with JHM 2.5" catless dps, JHM 2.5" catback, JHM intake spacers, JHM lightweight crank pulley, JHM lightweight front rotors. So, the gains from here should be fun.
My goal is to run 12.4X @ 110
Thats word for word what I figured you would be doing. Really there is not much that needs to be done to an RS4 right out of the box. Hopefully JHM has a carbon solution for you shortly!
