Hey PT, does anyone run leaded race gas with cats? Is that dangerous for the cats? I always thought it was.

Saki, leaded gas will kill the o2 not the cat based on my experience… Not sure if anyone is running but I doubt it… If I go headers I will probably try leaded gas… won’t hurt the motor it’s more the other shit I worry about… Would need a tune for it…

yeah, 02 sensors especially, but cats too I thought were a problem longer term.
I guess the o2 sensors could actually be more expensive when you think about it, at about $150 each (for 4 of them).
Saki, yes unleaded only at this point… If I get rid of all the emissions stuff I would probably run leaded… You may be correct on leaded gas damaging the cats also but not positive… I have first hand experience with it ruining o2’s as I ran it on my B5 and they all went bad! LOL
the steady supply of dead o2 and EGT sensors on the B5 made them like like paying a mortgage…
yeah the lead poisons the membrane in the O2 sensor… they’re little fuel cells and so when the membrane gets poisoned the voltage they produce drops and the car thinks its running stupid rich.
Is there any advantage of running leaded over unleaded? Given the same octane of course.
Most of the advantage comes from the fact you can get much higher octane ratings with leaded vs unleaded… however, I have heard there are other benefits and that the TEL(type of lead) that is used helps prevent pre-ignition and also can help protect some of the engine components like the valves… Not claiming to be that knowledgable so I am sure someone will offer more information and correct me if I am wrong… LOL

Yeah prime, I believe it’s the knock prevention that really helps big power cars running leaded. Dangerous thing knock at these power levels.
